Pro Green's Candid Confession: He Nearly Called Off Wedding to Millie Mackintosh
English rapper Professor Green, whose real name is Stephen Manderson, has opened up in a revealing interview about his past marriage to ex-wife Millie Mackintosh, admitting he came very close to calling off their wedding in 2013. The musician, now 41, shared these intimate details during a conversation on the Great Company podcast, hosted by Jamie Laing, a former co-star of Mackintosh from Made In Chelsea.
The Pressure to Tie the Knot
In the interview, Pro Green reflected on the intense pressure he felt leading up to the big day at the luxurious Babington House venue. He confessed, "If there wasn't that pressure, we may have never got married. It very nearly didn't happen." The rapper described having a last-minute conversation with his two best friends, Lewis and Phoenix, where he questioned whether he was getting cold feet, with one friend advising against proceeding.
Despite these doubts, Pro Green decided to push forward, marrying the Quality Street heiress. However, he emphasised that the decision wasn't made for the wrong reasons, stating, "We loved each other. There's no resentment in me. She is gorgeous. We were not good for each other at that time." The marriage lasted only three years before the couple divorced in a highly publicised split in 2016.
Reflections on a Turbulent Relationship
Both Pro Green and Millie Mackintosh have since spoken about the challenges in their relationship. Earlier this year, Mackintosh admitted on the Getting There podcast that their wedding "wasn't right but I was too scared to call it off because of the shame of letting everyone down." She described their dynamic as "quite toxic," noting that they both had personal struggles that magnified each other's issues.
Pro Green echoed similar sentiments, suggesting their bond might have involved "an element of trauma bonding." He took responsibility for his part in the relationship's breakdown, acknowledging, "I had a significant part in that, 50% at least, because there were two of us in the situation, and it didn't work out."
Life After the Divorce
Since their divorce, both individuals have moved on to new relationships. Pro Green is now engaged to Karima McAdams, with whom he shares a four-year-old son named Slimane. Meanwhile, Millie Mackintosh rekindled her romance with former Made In Chelsea co-star Hugo Taylor, marrying him in 2019. The couple have two daughters, Sienna Grace, aged five, and Aurelia Violet, aged three, though recent rumours suggest they may have split after a difficult period.
A Positive Reconnection
In a heartwarming turn, Pro Green revealed that he and Millie Mackintosh are now back in touch, having reconnected over shared experiences with mental health battles and similar struggles with ADHD. He explained, "There was undiagnosed neurodivergence between both of us. We had a conversation about this recently, and it makes sense." This reconnection has allowed both to find closure and move forward positively, with Pro Green expressing hope for their future happiness.
The rapper's candid insights provide a rare glimpse into the pressures of celebrity marriages and the personal growth that can follow difficult breakups, highlighting themes of resilience and self-awareness in the public eye.
