Chappell Roan Responds to Jorginho After Security Incident at Hotel

Chappell Roan has responded after Flamengo footballer Jorginho accused her security guard of aggressive behaviour towards his wife and stepdaughter at a hotel in São Paulo. The singer said the 11-year-old girl 'did not deserve that' and that the situation 'made her really sad'.

Jorginho, a former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder, posted on Instagram claiming his stepdaughter was 'extremely shaken and cried a lot' after Roan's security spoke 'in an extremely aggressive manner' to her and his wife. He said the girl had simply smiled while walking past the singer's table at breakfast and had not approached her. 'Without your fans, you would be nothing,' he wrote.

In a video on Instagram, Roan said the security guard involved was not her personal security and that she had not asked him to approach the family. 'They did not come up to me. They weren't doing anything. It's unfair for security to just assume someone doesn't have good intentions,' she said. The American musician added that she did not hate fans or children, and that she was sorry for the distress caused.

The incident drew criticism from Rio de Janeiro mayor Eduardo Cavaliere, who posted on X that Roan was not welcome at the city's Todo Mundo no Rio festival and questioned whether Shakira would treat fans similarly. Roan had previously spoken about setting boundaries with 'entitled' and 'creepy' fan behaviour in TikTok videos in 2024.
