A Night Out Turns to Tragedy
According to Shana, Patrick spent what would be his last evening enjoying a night out with his girlfriend, film producer Miriam Rothbart. The couple visited the new Los Angeles County Museum of Art, with Patrick described as being "happy as can be" during their time together. The evening showed no signs of the impending tragedy that would unfold just hours later.
The following morning began normally, with Patrick sharing a cup of coffee with Miriam before heading to the bathroom to take a shower. While Miriam made a phone call, she grew concerned when Patrick seemed to be taking longer than usual. Upon checking, she discovered him lying unresponsive on the bathroom floor.
Family's Desperate Rush and Additional Tragedy
Miriam immediately called 911 and attempted to revive Patrick while waiting for paramedics to arrive. Meanwhile, Patrick's family, who were all in Los Angeles at the time, received the devastating news and rushed to his home. In their frantic haste, Patrick's elderly father suffered a fractured shoulder after falling while running into the house to see his son.
"My parents were at our house because we're all in LA, and we all ran over there," Shana told the Daily Mail. "But by the time we got there, he was gone." The paramedics who arrived at the scene indicated that Patrick had likely suffered a fatal heart attack, though there were no prior warning signs or indications of health issues.

What makes Patrick's sudden death particularly shocking to his family is his history of excellent health and fitness. Shana emphasized that her brother was "so healthy" and maintained an active lifestyle as an ex-athlete who regularly practiced jiu-jitsu, martial arts, running, and workouts.
"He's an ex-athlete, he goes to jiu-jitsu, he's a martial artist, he runs, he works out," Shana explained. "It seems like he was in a highlight in his life. And then to just [die] suddenly, it's just unbelievable." She described feeling as though she was living in a nightmare from which she couldn't wake up.
Relationships and Recent Projects
Patrick had been dating Miriam Rothbart since 2023, with Shana describing her as his "life partner." The couple had recently celebrated their second anniversary in August, sharing a loving photo on social media to mark the occasion. Patrick's caption expressed his affection: "I love my girl. 2 years together today from the night this picture was taken where I got you drunk enough to be my girlfriend."
His ex-girlfriend, actress Denise Richards, with whom he had an on-and-off relationship throughout the 1990s, is said to be "inconsolable" following his death. The pair had remained close friends for decades after their split and were photographed together at the Saturn Awards just weeks before his passing.
In the days leading up to his death, Patrick had expressed excitement about a new project on his Instagram account. His final post revealed his involvement in the film KOCKROACH, directed by Matt Ross and starring Chris Hemsworth, Taron Egerton, Zazie Beetz, and Alec Baldwin, which was filming in Australia at the time.
