Netflix subscribers are devastated that one of their favourite shows will be dropped from the streaming platform. It signals the end of an era as Netflix has confirmed that the entire boxset will soon be leaving its US library.
End of an Era for Gilmore Girls on Netflix
After 12 years on the streaming service, Netflix took to X/Twitter to break the shocking news to fans and revealed the show's final departure date. The post reads: "It's a show? It's a lifestyle. It's a religion. We are sorry to say that Gilmore Girls seasons one to seven will be leaving Netflix in the US on June 30."
They added: "Raising a cup of coffee to every fan who visited Stars Hollow with us," and the announcement was met with an overwhelmingly negative reaction from dedicated fans.
Fans React with Anger and Sadness
"Sounds like I'm cancelling my membership then!" one viewer declared, as a second wrote: "I'm not even half way," accompanied by two crying emojis as they asked: "Where do I finish it now?"
Another commented: "First they come for Sex And The City now this....will have to cancel now." Someone else joined in: "Me rushing to watch every season before the end of June."
Yet another disappointed fan tweeted: "The only reason I pay for Netflix is to rewatch Gilmore Girls on repeat. I'll cancel my membership."
UK Viewers Safe for Now
Fortunately for British viewers, there has been no suggestion of Gilmore Girls leaving Netflix UK anytime soon. All seven series of the beloved show continue to be accessible on the platform, together with the 2016 limited series Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.
Unfortunately, this four-part revival was produced under a 10-year exclusive licensing agreement with Warner Bros which will reportedly end on November 25, 2026. As a result, A Year in the Life will also leave Netflix US before the close of the year, although it's unclear whether this will impact viewers in the UK.
