Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha has opened up about receiving a diagnosis for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) during Thursday's episode of the ITV daytime programme. The 57-year-old former soap star pre-recorded a segment discussing her symptoms, which include inattentiveness, hyperactivity and impulsiveness.
During the segment, Sawalha revealed she had given herself a lifetime ban on driving, explaining: 'I couldn't sit quietly without noise, I have to have something on to relax. Years ago I gave myself a lifetime ban on driving and the reason I give is, I lose consciousness.' She became emotional as she spoke about the condition, which she has lived with since childhood without knowing.
An ADHD specialist confirmed the diagnosis, stating: 'The symptoms you exhibit are consistent with ADHD.' Back in the studio, Sawalha discussed her past compulsive eating and noted that her husband Mark Adderley also lives with ADHD. She has started medication and hopes to one day be able to drive without losing concentration.
Viewers praised the star on social media, with one writing: 'So proud of you Nadia.' Another related to her story, saying: 'It's so sad because Nadia is talking about not being able to drive - and that's me.' The episode aired after Loose Women returned from a break due to ITV's coverage of the FIFA World Cup.
