Mel C and Boyfriend Chris Dingwall Enjoy Coachella Amid Touring and Reunion Talks
Mel C, the iconic Spice Girl, and her Australian model boyfriend Chris Dingwall were seen stepping out hand in hand at the Coachella festival over the weekend. The 52-year-old singer stuck to her usual uniform of a colourful tracksuit as she navigated through the bustling crowds at the event in Palm Springs. She completed her look with comfortable white trainers and accessorised with a black leather bag for the occasion.
Meanwhile, Chris cut a casual figure in a light blue shirt and a cowboy hat as he walked side by side with his pop star partner. The pair were likely among the crowds enjoying Justin Bieber's headlining set on Saturday night, adding to the festival's vibrant atmosphere.
Balancing Touring and Relationship
The star recently revealed the sweet way she manages to spend quality time with her partner despite her constant touring schedule. In an interview with Stellar magazine, Mel explained that Chris is able to accompany her on the road, which has transformed her approach to work and life.
'Rather than separating work and life, I enjoy them both together, which has been a big shift. I think that really happened after I met my partner, Chris,' Mel began. 'He's able to travel with me a lot. He's a screenwriter so he can work from anywhere, and that usually means with me, which is good for me.'
Mel went public with the Australian model in 2024 after the pair matched on the celebrity dating app Raya. She added, 'It's so beautiful to be able to enjoy the life I have with the person I love.'
Spice Girls Reunion Hopes
In the same interview, Mel also addressed rumours of a Spice Girls reunion tour, revealing she is in constant contact with her former bandmates. 'It's something I'd love to do... something I hope will happen at some point. We're so precious about this beautiful thing we created that sometimes what holds us back from doing something is that we don't want to do the wrong thing,' she said.
Reflecting on past performances, she noted, 'In 2019, we did some stadium shows in the UK, and they were magical, but sadly Victoria Beckham wasn't with us for those. She really missed out and I keep telling her, 'You have to experience that for yourself'.' Mel expressed optimism, stating, 'So, we will continue to talk... fingers crossed at some point there will be something beautiful that can celebrate the Spice Girls.'
Upcoming Projects and Personal Reflections
Mel C will be performing across Australia in November to promote her upcoming studio album Sweat, which is set to be released on May 1. This tour highlights her ongoing commitment to her music career while balancing her personal life.
In January, Mel hinted that marriage could be on the cards with Chris Dingwall as she reflected on past struggles with depression and loneliness. She told The Times, 'It's something I didn't think would be part of my story, but I'm so happy with Chris. Maybe it is something that will be in my life.'
Mel shares a daughter, Scarlett, with property developer Thomas Starr, her partner of 20 years before they split in 2021. She was previously in a seven-year relationship with her former manager Joe Marshall, which ended in 2015.
Overcoming Personal Challenges
Elsewhere in the interview, Mel spoke honestly about the deep loneliness she experienced as the Spice Girls began to split in the late '90s. Under relentless scrutiny in the public eye, she developed issues around food and found herself consumed by work while neglecting her personal life. By the turn of the millennium, she reached a breaking point.
'I'd started having a binge-eating disorder, but I didn't understand it,' she admitted. Mel eventually sought professional help and was diagnosed with clinical depression and disordered eating—a turning point that marked the beginning of her recovery journey. This openness adds depth to her current happiness and stability with Chris.
