Exclusive Details Emerge for Meghan Markle's Sydney Wellness Retreat

Gemma O'Neill, the manager of radio personality Jackie 'O' Henderson, has unveiled further insights into the highly anticipated 'Her Best Life Retreat' scheduled for Sydney this April. The event, which boasts the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, as its headline guest, promises an intimate gathering focused on empowerment and wellness for women.

Intimate Setting for Royal Engagement

In a recent video shared on social media, O'Neill provided a sneak peek of the conference room at the InterContinental Hotel in Coogee, where a gala dinner featuring Meghan Markle will be held. The footage revealed a modest space currently under construction, with several round tables arranged around a small stage. Two chairs were positioned beside a side table with water, though O'Neill emphasised that the final stage design remains 'top secret'.

'The actual space where we're doing the gala dinner, and part of the gala dinner will be a Q&A with Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, the room is actually quite small,' O'Neill explained. She described the atmosphere as having a 'really intimate feeling', adding that organisers are facilitating connections for solo attendees by 'setting up like a dating site, like a blind date' to match participants at tables.

Latest Guest Speaker Announced

The talent agent, 42, also revealed Dr Justine Corry as the retreat's latest special guest speaker and relationship coach. During an episode of her Besties podcast, O'Neill expressed her growing excitement about the event, stating she had spent an entire day 're-watching everything I have ever seen about Meghan' and becoming 'consumed' with preparation.

Dr Corry, who describes herself as 'a scientist, pattern-breaker, and behaviour change expert' with over two decades of clinical psychology experience, explained her approach to the retreat. 'I suppose I want to introduce women to the idea of schemas and the schemas that prevent them from living their best life,' she told O'Neill. 'I think knowing your schemas is a superpower and it really allows you to be authentic and embody your values and be more emotionally resilient.'

Background of the Relationship Expert

Originally from New Zealand, Dr Corry studied social sciences at The University of Waikato before relocating to Australia in the 1990s to pursue clinical psychology at UNSW. She worked as a research associate at the School of Psychiatry at UNSW from 1999 to 2013 and co-founded The Good Mood Clinic in Bondi Junction in 2008 with Dr Gemma Gladstone.

Both psychologists have since transitioned from the clinic, with Dr Corry departing in February last year and Dr Gladstone leaving in December 2023. They have rebranded as The Schema Therapy For Life, focusing on schema therapy—an integrative psychotherapy designed to help individuals overcome self-defeating life patterns rooted in unmet childhood needs.

Venue Challenges and Financial Context

The retreat is scheduled to take place from April 17 to 19 at the InterContinental Sydney in Coogee, with ticket prices ranging from $2,699 to $3,199 per person for the three-day wellness experience. However, construction delays at the luxury hotel have raised concerns among potential attendees.

The hotel's new infinity pool overlooking Coogee Beach, along with the spa, bar, and 'leisure deck', remain under construction and are not expected to be completed until next month. One recent guest described the pool refurbishment as 'a work in progress' and 'a blot on the view', casting doubt on the promised 'relaxed time by the pool' advertised to participants.

This development comes amid financial challenges for O'Neill, whose talent firm Gemmie Agency recently collapsed with debts of $536,000, primarily owed to the Australian Taxation Office. Despite these circumstances, the retreat continues to generate significant interest, particularly due to Meghan Markle's participation and the promise of transformative personal development experiences for attendees.
