Meghan Markle's Pop-Up Shop Investigated Over Wine Licence

Meghan Markle's pop-up store for her brand As Ever, hosted at the Godmothers bookshop in California, is under scrutiny for potentially violating alcohol licensing laws. The shop, run by Meghan's close friends Jennifer Rudolph Walsh and Victoria Jackson, displayed As Ever wines and an open bottle of Champagne, according to social media footage.

California law requires businesses to hold an Alcoholic Beverage License to sell alcohol. The Daily Mail reports that Godmothers applied for the licence in June 2024, but it has not yet been approved. Social media users have called for the bookshop to be reported to licensing officials.

Meghan announced the pop-up on Instagram last week, showcasing products including fruit spreads and candles. This marked the first in-person shopping opportunity for fans, who can otherwise buy As Ever items online at asever.com.

The brand launched in March and has been successful. Meghan, mother to Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, has not commented on the licensing issue.
