Australian model Megan Gale and her husband, former AFL footballer Shaun Hampson, have been seen in public for the first time since their bombshell revelation that they secretly married last year. The couple, who share two children, appeared relaxed during a low-key stroll in Perth on Tuesday.
A Relaxed Outing Post-Announcement
The sighting follows their recent confession in Marie Claire Australia that they held an ultra-private wedding ceremony in Fiji in December 2024. For their Perth outing, Gale, 50, showcased her signature style in a white singlet top paired with an animal-print midi skirt and a $5300 brown Louis Vuitton tote. She went makeup-free, shielding her eyes with cat-eye sunglasses.
Hampson, 37, complemented his wife's look in a simple grey T-shirt that highlighted his athletic physique, with sunglasses hooked on the neckline. He finished the casual ensemble with navy shorts and a smartwatch.
The Intimate Fiji Ceremony
In a candid interview, Gale detailed the couple's decision to exchange vows in an intensely private setting on Vomo Island, Fiji. The location held special significance due to Gale's Polynesian heritage. The guest list was exceptionally small, comprising only their mothers and their two children, son River, 11, and daughter Rosie, eight.
"We never wanted a big, public, showy wedding," Gale told the magazine. She emphasised that after much of her life being public, it was meaningful to keep this moment for themselves. The couple informed their immediate family at dinner the night before, aiming for total discretion and creating a surprised, joyful reaction.
A Long Journey to the Altar
The wedding marks the culmination of a 14-year relationship that began in 2010. Hampson proposed in 2017, but Gale had previously expressed that planning a large wedding felt "exhausting." She stated that having a family was always their priority, and they waited until their children were old enough to remember and participate in the ceremony.
The couple also faced public scrutiny early in their relationship due to their 12-year age gap, with Gale being labelled a 'cougar' and Hampson a 'toyboy'. Both found the attention difficult, with Hampson describing it as "horrible."
They managed to keep their Fiji nuptials a secret for an entire year, only now feeling comfortable enough to share their joyful news with the world.
