Bros star Matt Goss has shared exclusive details of his heartwarming Christmas plans, which centre on a long-awaited reunion with his father after three years apart.

A Festive Reunion After Hospital Stay

Speaking to The Mirror, the singer revealed his father, Alan, has spent the last nine months in hospital. Their contact had been limited even before this period, making their upcoming meeting particularly significant.

The pair are set to share a traditional pub lunch on Christmas Day, a plan that excites them both. "My father's coming in, haven't seen him for three years," Matt explained. "He's been in hospital for nine months and it's one of those Christmases where he's like 'I'm so excited'."

He added that they are looking forward to an unashamedly straightforward celebration. "We're also looking forward to just have a simple pub lunch at Christmas. No washing up for us," Matt said.

Repairing a Father-Son Bond

Matt and Alan Goss have not always enjoyed a close relationship, but they have worked to repair their bond in recent years. The singer has previously opened up about his father's protective nature when he and twin brother Luke found fame in the late 1980s.

"Dad always worried about me when fame first struck," Matt told Hello! magazine. "I was young then, but I need him just as much now and always will."

He described his father as a source of strength, recalling a time he insisted on having him present during a studio session. "When they said I could have somebody on the studio floor with me, I immediately knew I needed my dad. He gives me strength and I trust his opinion."

The Ongoing Feud with Twin Brother Luke

While his relationship with his father has healed, Matt's connection with his brother remains fractured. The siblings, who sold an impressive 16 million records as part of pop band Bros, are reportedly still not on speaking terms.

Their attempts to reconcile were documented in the 2018 film After the Screaming Stops. The programme also highlighted the profound tragedies that impacted the band, including the death of their sister Carolyn in a car crash when she was 18, and the loss of their mother.

In a candid interview with The Guardian last year, Matt confirmed he did not wish to "lie" about the status of their relationship. "It’s a tough one. I don’t want to say too much, out of respect for him. But I’m not going to say it’s kumbaya, because it certainly isn’t," he stated.

Despite the estrangement, Matt believes the musical partnership should have endured. "To this day, I think we shouldn’t have broken up. We should have just ridden out the storm," he reflected.
