A new documentary from TMZ is challenging the official narrative of Marilyn Monroe's death, asserting that the scene was deliberately staged to resemble a suicide. The special, titled 'Celebrity Crime Scene: Marilyn Monroe,' employs artificial intelligence and modern forensic techniques to re-examine the evidence from the night of August 4, 1962, when the 36-year-old actress was found dead in her Brentwood, Los Angeles home.
Documentary Claims Scene Was Altered
Leading the investigation is retired cold case detective Paul Holes, known for identifying the Golden State Killer. He is joined by certified senior crime scene analyst Alina Burroughs and true crime journalist Kiki Monique. The team argues that multiple elements of the scene are inconsistent with a typical overdose death.
Among the details cited are bedding that appeared unusually pristine and pill bottles arranged neatly with labels facing outward. Producers question why no glass of water was found beside Monroe's bed, despite the sedatives she reportedly consumed. Holes told Fox News Digital he knew 'very few details about it until I started digging into this case.'
Broken Window Raises Questions
The documentary also focuses on a broken window at the scene. Holes noted, 'He breaks the window but all the glass is on the outside. Why is all the glass on the outside? If he's breaking the window, I would expect the glass to be on the inside.' Burroughs added, 'If you're inside and you're thinking, 'Well we've got to stage this.' You're gonna not run around outside to break it in, you're just gonna break the glass.'
Monique concluded, 'And we already know from the bedroom it was clearly staged or that's what the evidence is showing. Why wouldn't this also possibly be staged?'
Revisiting Police Conduct and Conspiracy Theories
The special revisits the conduct of the first officers on the scene, suggesting some harbored doubts. According to the programme, officer Jack Clemmons felt something was irregular from the start, though the official verdict remained unchanged. The documentary also explores Monroe's alleged connections with President John F. Kennedy and Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, as well as claims that FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover kept her under surveillance.
Speaking on NewsNation's Jesse Weber Live, Holes contended that 'nobody stages a suicide to look like a better suicide.'
'Celebrity Crime Scene: Marilyn Monroe' premieres tonight on FOX at 8pm ET and 7pm CT, and will be available to stream on Hulu the following day.
