Harry Maguire Shows Class with Good Luck Message to England Before World Cup Semi-Final
Maguire Backs England Ahead of World Cup Semi-Final vs Argentina

Harry Maguire, the Manchester United defender who was a surprise omission from England's World Cup squad this summer, has publicly backed the Three Lions ahead of their semi-final clash against Argentina in Atlanta. The 33-year-old took to Instagram to post a good luck message, writing: "All the best lads," alongside an England flag and love heart emoji.

Maguire's Reaction to World Cup Omission

Maguire was excluded from Thomas Tuchel's 26-man squad for the tournament in North America, with Marc Guehi, John Stones, Ezri Konsa, and Dan Burn selected instead. The former Leicester City and Sheffield United centre-back has since returned to pre-season training with Manchester United under Michael Carrick and has taken up a punditry role on Gary Lineker's Netflix programme, The Rest is Football.

Speaking on the show, Maguire revealed that Tuchel notified him and other omitted players via FaceTime. "It was a surprise. I said straight away it was a surprise. I was really disappointed, and I thought I'd done enough to make the squad and help the lads out there," Maguire said. "He FaceTimes everyone, so it's quite an awkward call. I received a text around nine or ten o'clock in the morning just saying 'can I speak to you today at 4 o'clock?' He FaceTimes everybody, and it's quite a unique way to do it."

Maguire's Support for the Three Lions

Despite his disappointment, Maguire has demonstrated real class by sending a supportive message to the England squad just hours before one of their most significant matches in a generation. He has previously spoken of being in contact with several England squad members and offered them his wholehearted support this summer.

Maguire acknowledged having "had words" with Tuchel following the decision. "I was shocked more than anything. We had a few words. I'm quite a big personality, I'm experienced, but I think it was an honest conversation between us both," he said. "I'm 33 now, 37 at the next World Cup looks far away. I wanted to go, not just play, but I told the manager I wasn't demanding that I start the games. I would have been happy playing one minute as long as I was there with the lads. It was disappointing."

England's Semi-Final Challenge

England face Argentina in Atlanta in a World Cup semi-final, a match that could define a generation for the Three Lions. Maguire's message of support underscores his professionalism and commitment to the team, even when not part of the squad. His actions have been praised by fans and pundits alike, highlighting his character off the pitch.
