Love Island star Ellie Chadwick has broken her silence for the first time since quitting the ITV dating show, with her emotional exit airing during Thursday night's (July 16) episode. The Scottish Islander chose to leave the villa after her partner, Finley Maddock, was dumped from the show following a decision by their fellow Islanders.
Rather than continuing in the villa without Finley, Ellie decided to follow her heart and leave the show alongside him. Despite the disappointment of her fellow Islanders, the 24-year-old revealed she had "found what she was looking for" and had no intention of staying.
Ellie Opens Up About Her Decision to Leave
Now, the West Lothian star has opened up about the moment she decided to walk away, admitting that seeing Finley at risk of being dumped was difficult. Speaking about the decision, Ellie said: "Obviously, seeing Finley up there was hard because it was a recent event and he hadn't been in the bottom before."
She explained that after Maya Jama revealed there would be another dumping, she had a feeling things would not go the way she hoped. "When we got told about the second dumping and that we had to choose, I already kind of knew in my gut that it wasn't going to go the way I was hoping, which was for me and Finley to stay there and continue to grow," Ellie admitted. "There were no ifs, buts or maybes, or what ifs, or how could this play out."
Love Triangle and Communication Issues
Ellie and Finley had been considered one of the villa's strongest couples before bombshell Elicia Bailey entered the villa and created a complicated love triangle between the pair. Reflecting on how Finley handled the situation, Ellie admitted to ITV she felt his communication could have been better. "Finley knows fine well that I feel like he navigated it very poorly. I made that very vocal and I will stand on that," she said.
"I think the communication was poor. A lot of the things that happened were not relayed to me in a proper way, which I would have appreciated." However, Ellie insisted she was always willing to hear the truth and understood that Finley found himself in a difficult position. She explained: "I'm big enough to take the truth on the chest. I'm happy with that. I'm a very direct, upfront person. I understand he was confused. I was understanding the whole time, but there was only so much understanding I could do."
Lessons Learned and Future Hopes
Despite her frustrations, Ellie said she believed there were lessons to be learned from their experience and that their journey on the show had helped her grow. "There are definitely ways it could have been better, but we live and we learn. That's what Love Island is. It's about living and learning," she said, before adding: "I've learned a lot about myself there and I've got to give him grace on that."
The fan favourite also made it clear that leaving the villa did not mean she had given up on their connection, revealing she still believed in what they had built together. Ellie explained: "It doesn't mean the grafting boots are off because we're out now, those boots are still on. I believed in the connection we had so much. I just knew in my heart that it was going to work, regardless of what was going on."
