Police Scotland has launched a murder investigation after a 45-year-old man was found dead with serious injuries at a home in Cumbernauld. Emergency services discovered John McMonigle at a property on Glenhove Road around 9.20am on Wednesday, July 15, 2026. Following a post-mortem examination, officers confirmed his death is being treated as murder.
Investigation Underway
Detectives from the Major Investigation Team have conducted door-to-door enquiries in the area to establish the full circumstances surrounding Mr McMonigle's death. Detective Chief Inspector Laura Young, senior investigating officer, stated: "Our thoughts are with Mr McMonigle's family at what is an extremely difficult time for them. They are being supported by specially trained officers and have asked for their privacy to be respected."
Appeal for Information
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward. DCI Young added: "A dedicated team of officers is working to establish the full circumstances and they have already spoken to a number of people in the area. Door-to-door enquiries are continuing. We are asking anyone who saw Mr McMonigle in the lead up to his death who have not already spoken to officers to get in touch. Likewise, if you saw anything suspicious."
Authorities are also asking the public to check private CCTV and dash-cam footage that may have captured something relevant to the investigation. DCI Young noted: "We understand this incident will be concerning for the local community and officers remain in the area and anyone with concerns can approach them."
