A driver crashed into a lamppost in Edinburgh on Thursday evening after being pursued by police, according to witnesses. The incident occurred at approximately 6pm on July 16 on Clermiston Drive, where a car traveling at high speed lost control, mounted the kerb, and struck a lamppost.
Witness Accounts
Local residents reported that the vehicle had earlier been seen speeding along Clermiston Drive before returning towards Drum Brae Drive with police cars in pursuit. Witness Steven Melville told Edinburgh Live: "I saw the car being driven at high speed up Clermiston Drive round about 6ish. And five minutes later it came back down again being chased by two cop cars, he took the corner at Hoseason Gardens at high speed, mounted the kerb and hit the lamppost."
Suspects Flee
According to witnesses, both the driver and passenger abandoned the badly damaged grey car and fled on foot, with officers giving chase. Pictures from the scene show extensive front-end damage to the vehicle. Several police vehicles and a recovery truck attended the incident.
Police Response
Police Scotland has been approached for comment. The investigation is ongoing.
