Love Island fans have voiced concerns over what they call a 'dangerous narrative' developing in the villa, centred on contestant Priya and her romantic choices. The backlash follows Tuesday night's episode (July 15) where Priya and Aidan reunited, cutting ties with Ethan and Elicia. Viewers slammed the pressure on Priya to reciprocate Ethan's gestures, arguing she doesn't owe him anything.
Recoupling Sparks Controversy
In the latest episode, Priya and Aidan rekindled their romance after a dramatic recoupling ceremony, leaving Ethan and Elicia feeling disrespected. The newcomers labelled Priya and Aidan's trip to the Hideaway as 'disrespectful', escalating tensions just weeks before the final. However, fans on Reddit criticised the narrative that Priya should give Ethan a chance because he cooks and brings her coffee.
One viewer wrote: 'I think it's crazy that Martha, Elicia and Julia think Priya should give Ethan a chance because he is cooking for her and bringing her coffees. Not saying Aidan is better for Priya, but to keep saying she is silly for not giving Ethan a chance because he does all that for her is a dangerous narrative.'
Fan Reactions Divide
Another fan added: 'You're right! It's so annoying like who even knows if Ethan is being genuine! The way it keeps being brought up that he brings her stuff like so? She doesn't owe him anything!' A third commented: 'Just because someone is nice to you doesn't mean you HAVE to like them and HAVE to be with them. That's gross.'
However, not all viewers agreed. One argued: 'It's not dangerous, it's not that deep. I do understand where you're coming from but the point they were making is that Priya keeps saying she wants someone to be all for her then when someone is she checks out before even getting to know them.' Another claimed: 'It is blatantly obvious Priya and Aidan are hustling for a better chance in the final.'
Mixed Messages or Genuine Connection?
Some fans defended Priya, noting her honesty throughout. One remarked: 'To me, it feels like they've had a friendship that's slowly turned into something more. They've both been respectful to their partners and have been honest about how they're feeling the whole time.' The debate continues as Love Island airs Sunday to Friday at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
