Louie Spence, the dancer and TV personality known for his role on Pineapple Dance Studios, has spoken candidly about his battle with anxiety and depression. In an exclusive interview with The Mirror, he revealed that stepping out of his comfort zone is key to managing his mental health. 'When I get anxious, it can turn into depression,' he said. 'I have to step out and get out of it.'
Spence is partnering with Dr Pepper for a new 'Dr Darey Dare Deck' challenge, which encourages people to embrace spontaneity. A study by the brand found that Brits are creatures of habit, and Spence hopes to inspire others to break their routines. 'It's important to remind yourself there's more out there,' he said. 'Liberate yourself from the simplest things.'
The 52-year-old also discussed his new YouTube show, Louie Spence in Care, and reflected on the changing landscape of reality TV. He noted that Pineapple Dance Studios was an observational documentary, unlike scripted shows like The Only Way Is Essex. 'Everything you see in Pineapple was not scripted,' he emphasised.
When asked about Strictly Come Dancing, Spence ruled out participating as a contestant, saying people would perceive him as a trained dancer. However, he expressed interest in being a judge, though he acknowledged ballroom and Latin are a different genre. He suggested Rylan Clark or Zoe Ball as potential new hosts, adding, 'Who knows how many more years a show like that will last?'
