Lady Gaga enjoyed a romantic evening out with her fiancé Michael Polansky in London this weekend, showcasing effortless style while opening up about her past mental health struggles during the filming of A Star Is Born.
Stylish Night Out in London
The 39-year-old songstress looked stunning in a chic silk maxi dress that perfectly complemented her figure during their Saturday evening dinner date. The couple, who have been engaged since April 2024, chose the exclusive Laperouse restaurant for their romantic outing.
Gaga's fashion choices turned heads as she navigated the restaurant entrance, lifting the hem of her gown to reveal stockings and towering Christian Louboutin platform shoes. Her accessories included a dazzling diamond necklace, matching earrings, and a watch, while she carried her essentials in a black Hermes Birkin bag valued at approximately $20,000.
Meanwhile, her 42-year-old fiancé Michael Polansky opted for a more casual look, wearing a padded jacket and jeans while shielding his face with a baseball cap.
Dark Reality Behind Oscar Success
Behind the glamorous facade, Gaga has revealed the difficult truth about her mental health during the filming of her breakthrough movie role. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the singer confessed that she was medicated with lithium throughout the production of A Star Is Born in 2018.
The film, which co-starred Bradley Cooper, earned eight Oscar nominations and won Best Original Song for Shallow, but Gaga admits her "psyche was unraveling" during filming. "I did A Star Is Born on lithium," she frankly told the publication.
Lithium is commonly prescribed for bipolar disorder and helps stabilise severe mood swings, according to the Mayo Clinic.
The Breaking Point and Recovery
Soon after completing the film and while on her Joanne tour, Gaga experienced what she described as a "psychotic break" that led to hospitalisation for psychiatric care.
"There was one day that my sister said to me, 'I don't see my sister anymore,'" Gaga recalled. "And I canceled the tour. There was one day I went to the hospital for psychiatric care. I needed to take a break. I couldn't do anything … I completely crashed."
The singer described the experience as "really scary" and admitted there was a time when she didn't think she could get better. "I feel really lucky to be alive," she added. "I know that might sound dramatic, but we know how this can go."
Finding Peace and Love
Gaga credits much of her recovery to her relationship with Harvard-educated entrepreneur Michael Polansky. The couple were first linked around New Year's Eve 2019 and went Instagram official in early 2020 before getting engaged in April 2024.
"Being in love with someone that cares about the real me made a very big difference," Gaga told Rolling Stone. After years of struggle, she now considers herself "a healthy, whole person."
The couple are now looking toward building a family together. "Being a mom is the thing I want most," Gaga revealed. "And he's going to be a beautiful father. We're really excited about that."
Polansky confirmed they're actively planning their wedding, telling the magazine: "We're talking about it all the time. We don't want a really big wedding, but we want to enjoy it. In a lot of ways, we already feel married, so it's not like it's gonna change much."
Gaga's journey back to health coincided with the creation of her latest album, Mayhem, which has received seven Grammy nominations. She described the process as "months and months of rediscovering everything that I'd lost," adding that the album's title reflects "what it took to get it back was crazy."
