Scottish pop star KT Tunstall has been announced as the headline act for the opening ceremony of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, which will take place at the Hydro in Glasgow on July 23. The singer, known for hits like Suddenly I See, is taking a break from her world tour to perform at the event.
Line-up of Scottish Acts
Joining Tunstall on stage will be Nathan Evans & Saint PHNX, Nina Nesbitt, Callum Beattie, and Scottish electronic duo Valtos. Nathan Evans & Saint PHNX gained popularity during the World Cup with their anthem Home. Evans expressed his excitement on Instagram, writing, 'Right... this is a bit mad. We’re performing at the Opening Ceremony of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on 23rd July!! Absolutely buzzing to be part of it.'
Performances and Ceremonial Highlights
Callum Beattie, who sold out a Hydro headline show earlier this year, will perform alongside Nina Nesbitt. Organisers have hinted that the pair will deliver a reimagined version of a beloved Scottish track. Valtos, from the Isle of Skye, have collaborated with musicians from across the Commonwealth to provide the soundtrack for the Parade of Nations, which will feature athletes from 74 countries and territories.
The opening ceremony will also include 600 volunteer cast members, adding to the spectacle. Louisa Mahon, chief marketing and ceremonies officer for Glasgow 2026, said: 'Glasgow doesn’t do things in half measures – we sing louder, dance harder and are known for throwing our doors open wider than anywhere else. On July 23, we will share that spirit with 74 nations from across the Commonwealth in this beautifully curated ceremony.'
Return to Glasgow
The Commonwealth Games returns to Glasgow after 12 years, featuring a slightly reduced sporting programme. The games will run from July 23 to August 2, 2026. Tickets remain available through the Glasgow 2026 website.
