Jimmy Kimmel Suspended Indefinitely by ABC After On-Air Attack on Charlie Kirk's Death

Jimmy Kimmel has been suspended indefinitely by ABC after making controversial remarks about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The network announced on Wednesday that Jimmy Kimmel Live! would be pulled from the air for the foreseeable future.

During his Monday episode, Kimmel falsely implied that Kirk's alleged shooter, Tyler Robinson, was a conservative, despite investigators stating that Robinson held far-left ideologies and was dating his transgender roommate. Kimmel said, 'We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them.'

Kimmel also mocked President Donald Trump's response to Kirk's death, including his focus on building a new ballroom at the White House. Kimmel quipped, 'Yes, he's at the fourth stage of grief, construction. This is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he called a friend. This is how a 4-year-old mourns a goldfish, okay?'

The remarks drew immediate criticism from Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr and others. Kimmel had initially expressed condolences on social media after the shooting, but changed his tone in his Monday monologue. ABC's decision to suspend the show came before Kimmel was set to address his comments on Wednesday night.
