In an emotional revelation that has touched hearts across the nation, Kelsey Parker has shared the poignant moment her young daughter came to terms with the devastating loss of father Tom Parker.
The Wanted star's widow opened up about the heartbreaking conversation with their daughter Aurelia, who was just two years old when Tom lost his courageous battle with an inoperable brain tumour in March 2022.
The Moment Reality Dawned
"She had this moment where she said, 'But Mummy, when is Daddy coming home?'" Kelsey recalled during an emotional interview. "And I had to explain to her that Daddy isn't coming home, that he lives in the stars now."
The conversation represents every bereaved parent's nightmare - finding the right words to explain death to a child who can't possibly comprehend the finality of loss.
Life After Tom's Passing
Since Tom's tragic death at just 33 years old, Kelsey has been navigating the challenging journey of single parenthood while keeping her husband's memory alive for their two children, Aurelia and son Bodhi.
"The children know their dad was in The Wanted," Kelsey shared. "We play his music, we watch the videos. It's important they know who he was and how much he loved them."
A Public Battle With Cancer
Tom Parker's cancer journey was played out in the public eye, with the singer documenting his treatment and raising awareness about brain tumours through his autobiography Hope and various charity initiatives.
His widow continues to honour his legacy, recently organising a special screening of the band's new documentary for family and friends, including Tom's former bandmates.
"It was emotional but beautiful," Kelsey said of the event. "There were lots of tears, but also lots of laughter remembering the amazing times."
The Ongoing Grief Journey
Kelsey's candid sharing of these intimate family moments provides a raw insight into how families navigate grief and keep memories alive for young children.
"Some days are better than others," she admitted. "But we're getting through it together, as a family."
