The cast of Prime Video's hit series The Summer I Turned Pretty were allegedly pressured into committing to a feature film continuation or risk losing salary increases, according to reports from Deadline.
Sources close to the talent claim that actors Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, Gavin Casalegno, Sean Kaufman, and Rain Spencer were told their raises for season three depended on signing up for the movie. Some reportedly felt 'forced' and signed 'under duress'.
However, sources close to studio Wiip, which produces the show in coordination with Amazon, insist the actors were 'aligned' on the proposal and agreed voluntarily. The salary increases are thought to be around $100,000 per episode, with lead Lola Tung earning more than her male co-stars throughout the series.
The show, based on Jenny Han's novels, debuted in 2022 and ran for three seasons before being renewed for a feature film. The cast negotiated raises ahead of season three as the show's popularity grew, but were reportedly asked to commit to the movie during advanced talks.
