Keeley Hawes: Marriages and Family of Upstairs Downstairs Star

Keeley Hawes, the 50-year-old actress best known for her roles in Upstairs Downstairs and Spooks, has a personal life that has intrigued fans for years. Currently married to actor Matthew Macfadyen, she was previously wed to cartoonist Spencer McCallum.

First Marriage to Spencer McCallum

Hawes, a London native, first gained attention in the 1990s with roles in Heartbeat and Our Mutual Friend. She married cartoonist Spencer McCallum in December 2001, and the couple had a son named Myles. However, the marriage ended when she moved out of their Surrey home.

In an interview with Night & Day magazine, Hawes reflected on the split: "The most painful thing was that Spencer and I were such good friends. I was in my early twenties when I met him. We were best, best friends, then the lines got blurred. We had Myles, and getting married seemed like the natural thing to do." She also denied rumors of an affair with Macfadyen, stating: "When I decided to leave my husband, nothing had happened between Matthew and me. I'm sure nobody would believe we never had an affair, but we really didn't."

Hawes maintains a positive relationship with McCallum and his family, telling The Standard: "Spencer's parents have been phenomenal with my children. And Spencer is a great friend of my family now. We're all grown-ups."

Marriage to Matthew Macfadyen

Hawes married her Spooks co-star Matthew Macfadyen in November 2004. The couple share a son and a daughter. Macfadyen, 51, is famous for his role as Mr. Darcy in the 2005 film Pride & Prejudice and for playing Tom Quinn in Spooks, as well as his work in Succession.

Speaking to The Independent about their romance, Hawes recalled: "Matthew just came straight out with it and said, 'I love you,' in the rain one day. I thought, 'Oh dear, here we go'." She praised his acting, saying: "I think he is absolutely brilliant in Pride & Prejudice and it's very difficult to judge your own partner... I watch that and I think he's such a brilliant, generous actor to work with - and to watch. He's really wonderful."

The couple wed at Richmond-upon-Thames register office while Hawes was seven months pregnant.

Upstairs Downstairs on Netflix

Upstairs Downstairs, the period drama series created by Call the Midwife writer Heidi Thomas, has entered the UK Top 10 streaming chart on Netflix. Originally airing on BBC in 2010, the series is a follow-up to the original 1970s show, set six years after its conclusion. Hawes played Lady Agnes Holland, the new owner of 165 Eaton Place, across both seasons.
