Another birthday is approaching in the Prince and Princess of Wales's household, and it could mean another late night for Kate Middleton. Like any other parent, she wants to make birthdays extra special for each of her three children. This means there is one sweet tradition she carries out every year the night before her children's special days, which requires her to stay up very late.
Once her children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis have gone to bed for the night, Kate once revealed she then gets to work on making them their very own homemade birthday cake. With Charlotte set to turn 11 tomorrow, she will likely be getting busy in the kitchen baking later tonight.
Kate's Baking Tradition
Kate revealed her long-standing tradition in 2019 when she and husband Prince William appeared on a special BBC programme with baking expert Mary Berry called A Berry Royal Christmas. In it, she spoke of her love for baking and told Mary that when it comes to her children's birthdays: "I love making the cake." She added: "It's become a bit of a tradition that I stay up 'til midnight with ridiculous amounts of cake mix and icing and I make far too much. But I love it."
Princess Charlotte's Birthday
Charlotte Elizabeth Diana was born in the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, London, at 8:34 am on May 2, 2015, weighing 8 lb 3 oz. She owes her middle names to Queen Elizabeth II and her late grandmother Diana, Princess of Wales, and is said by royal fans to bear a resemblance to both when they were younger.
The young princess was last seen in public on Easter Sunday, when she joined the rest of her family for the traditional Easter Sunday church service at Windsor Castle with her grandfather, the King. Third in line to the throne, Charlotte attends the co-educational private Lambrook School near Ascot in Berkshire, and loves dancing, especially ballet and tap. She has a reputation for being feisty compared with her older brother George, and Kate has described the princess as "the one in charge".
To mark her 10th birthday last year, her parents released a photograph of her on their social media accounts. It showed her sitting on a grassy bank with hills in the background, and appeared to have been taken during a break in a hike in Cumbria. She was photographed on an iPhone by Kate, a keen amateur photographer who regularly takes images of her children to mark official occasions.
