Kate Lawler, the first woman to win Big Brother in 2002, has candidly discussed the toll parenthood took on her marriage and how couples therapy helped her relationship with husband Martin Bojtos. Speaking exclusively to us, the 44-year-old admitted that becoming parents to daughter Noa, now five, was tougher than expected.
“I feel like nobody talks about how tough it is on your relationship,” she said. “If it wasn’t for our therapist, Diana, I don’t know where we’d be.” Lawler, who met Bojtos in 2013 and married him in 2022, also shared her battle with postnatal depression after Noa’s birth.
Reflecting on her wilder days, Lawler expressed relief that her time on Big Brother predated social media. “I think I would have been cancelled!” she joked. Now a mother of one and dog owner of two, she says she has mellowed significantly, focusing on wholesome activities and reducing alcohol intake.
On the possibility of more children, Lawler revealed Noa has asked for a sibling, but she feels too tired. “I’d love to give Noa a brother or sister, but I’m just too tired. I’ve only got the ability to look after myself, my husband, my toddler and my two dogs.” Instead, she wants another dog.
Lawler, who co-hosts the podcast Boj & Kate Have A Lot On Their Plate, admitted struggling with work-life balance, often pushing herself to burnout. She is now prioritising exercise to manage perimenopausal symptoms, noting that lifting weights helps her feel better.
