Kate Garraway Faces £1.65 Million Debt After Husband's Care Costs

Kate Garraway has revealed she is struggling with debts totalling £1.65 million, largely due to the cost of caring for her late husband Derek Draper. The Good Morning Britain presenter spent £16,000 a month on his care, which exceeded her salary from ITV. Despite her well-paid job, she has been forced to withdraw money from her pension to cover bills.

New financial pressures have emerged following the closure of Draper's business, Asta Aspera, which was shut down with £184,096.96 of debt. Garraway faces a £150,000 bill from the liquidation, including a £32,000 flat fee and 40% of recovered assets. She is also liable for a £112,836 director's loan taken out by her late husband.

Garraway has engaged London financial experts Hacker Young to handle discussions with HMRC over her tax bill. A source close to the presenter said she has made no secret of her financial issues, which include medical care costs and the collapse of her husband's company.

In a recent episode of GMB, Garraway admitted she felt ashamed of her debt, saying: 'I have an incredible job that I love, that's very well paid. I'm not a carer travelling miles... I just feel a shame that I couldn't make it work.' She previously highlighted the inadequacy of the care system, noting that despite her income, she could not keep up with costs.
