Former Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson has shared an emotional and deeply personal message with her fans to mark her first Mother's Day since welcoming twin daughters. The 34-year-old artist, who has been open about her challenging pregnancy journey, posted a poignant tribute on Instagram, celebrating motherhood while acknowledging the difficulties many face on this day.
A Touching Tribute to Motherhood
In a black-and-white photograph shared on her social media account, Jesy is seen sitting among a group of women, captioning the image with heartfelt words. "Happy Mother's Day to all the super human amazing mumas out there," she wrote, extending her thoughts to those who find the day challenging. "For anyone who finds today difficult, my heart goes out to you."
The singer explained that she had the opportunity to sit down with incredible mothers and families to celebrate women and their resilience. "It was so incredibly special hearing their stories and learning about their amazing children who have had to overcome so much in their life," Jesy added. "I cannot wait to share with you all their inspiring stories."
Support for Those Grieving or Struggling
In a separate post, Nelson offered comfort to individuals who are unable to share Mother's Day with their mothers or who experience loss. Her message included a compassionate line: "For anyone with empty arms on Mother's Day, for whatever reason, this day will pass as quickly as it comes, let yourself do whatever you need to, to make it through and express the pain you're feeling however you need to."
Raising Awareness for Spinal Muscular Atrophy
Jesy's Mother's Day reflections come amid her ongoing advocacy for her daughters, Ocean and Story, who were diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1. This rare, life-limiting, and progressive muscle-wasting disease affects their ability to sit up, crawl, or walk, and in severe cases, can impact breathing and swallowing.
According to the NHS, SMA Type 1, which affects Jesy's twins, accounts for approximately 60 percent of cases, with an estimated incidence of one in 10,000 births. Tragically, without breathing support, children with this condition may not survive beyond their second birthday, though advances in treatment are improving outcomes.
Personal Updates and Advocacy Efforts
Over the weekend, the singer shared a video update on her daughters' health, showing a tender moment where she encouraged Story Monroe to say "mumma." In the clip, Jesy is heard gently stroking her baby's head and asking, "Story, say Mumma. Can you say Mumma?" She humorously noted in the caption, "Yeah not happening!" accompanied by a laughing emoji.
Since receiving the heartbreaking diagnosis, Jesy has prioritized campaigning for the NHS to implement a heel prick test for newborns. This screening could enable earlier detection of SMA, allowing parents to seek treatment sooner rather than later.
Earlier this month, she posted another loving video practicing leg movement exercises with her twins, encouraging one daughter by saying, "Are you gonna show them how you move your legs? You're a little ballerina, come on. Good girl. Little ballerina, yes you are!"
A Message of Hope and Resilience
Jesy Nelson's Mother's Day message not only celebrates the joys of motherhood but also highlights the strength required to navigate health challenges. Her openness about her twins' condition has brought increased attention to Spinal Muscular Atrophy, fostering greater awareness and support for affected families.
Through her social media posts and advocacy, the singer continues to inspire fans with her resilience and dedication to her daughters' well-being, making her first Mother's Day a poignant milestone in her journey as a parent.
