Jesy Nelson Reveals Zion Split Trauma, Little Mix Regrets & Gary Barlow Snub
Jesy Nelson Bombshells: Zion Split, Little Mix & Gary Barlow

Former Little Mix star Jesy Nelson has delivered a series of explosive revelations about her personal life, career struggles, and past traumas in a candid new interview ahead of her documentary release. The singer has broken her silence on multiple fronts, from the heartbreaking reasons behind her split from fiancé Zion Foster to her complex feelings about her time in the world's most successful girl group.

The Real Reason Behind the Zion Foster Split

Jesy Nelson has revealed that her engagement to musician Zion Foster ended just four months after their daughters were born due to the overwhelming trauma of their children's medical diagnosis. The couple's twin daughters were diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1, a rare genetic condition, when they were six months old.

"We have both been through such a traumatic experience, the energy wasn't right between us, which is understandable," Jesy told the Daily Mail. She emphasized that despite their separation, they remain "still friends" and are "united in co-parenting" their daughters. Her upcoming Prime Video documentary, Jesy Nelson: Life After Little Mix, will feature their relationship in detail, showing how close they were before circumstances forced them apart.

A Mother's Campaign for Newborn Screening

Since learning about her daughters' condition, Jesy has become a passionate campaigner for adding SMA to the standard newborn screening tests. She explained during an interview with This Morning and Health Secretary Wes Streeting that early detection is crucial, stating it was "literally a case of your child could walk or your child could be in a wheelchair." Her advocacy work has brought significant attention to this critical healthcare issue.

Her Daughters' Miraculous Survival Story

In perhaps her most emotional revelation, Jesy disclosed that doctors once told her the survival rate for her twin daughters was "next to nothing." This terrifying prognosis came before the SMA diagnosis, following serious complications during her pregnancy that resulted in premature birth and Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS), where twins share the same placenta with only a 50-65% survival likelihood for both.

"It's mad to think they were in my tummy and had a next to nothing survival rate, then they got TTTS, they survived that, and the whole time they had SMA and I didn't even know," she reflected. The singer described how she feared her daughters would die while cameras were still filming her documentary, creating an unbearable pressure during an already traumatic time.

The Gary Barlow Audition That Left Her Mortified

Jesy has opened up about her devastating X Factor audition experience with Take That frontman Gary Barlow. When she auditioned at age 20 with Jazmine Sullivan's Bust Your Windows, she received praise from judges Louis Walsh, Tulisa, and Kelly Rowland, but Barlow delivered a crushing rejection.

"I remember coming off stage, and I was really crying, and they were literally shoving the camera in my face, saying 'Jesy, can you just say to the camera, 'Gary, I'm going to prove you wrong,'" she recalled. Despite positive feedback from other judges, Jesy admitted that "receiving a bad comment is the one that got in my head," leaving her feeling deeply embarrassed and determined to prove herself.

Little Mix Reflections and Potential Reunion

Tulisa's Crucial Role

Jesy had glowing praise for her X Factor mentor Tulisa, describing the N-Dubz singer as one of the "most beautiful people" she knows and a "real genuine person." She credited Tulisa with being "a big part of the reason why we were so successful" and suggested that "it could have been very different if we didn't have someone who cared so much about us."

Never Say Never to a Reunion

In perhaps her most surprising revelation, Jesy suggested a Little Mix reunion might be possible despite her departure from the group in 2021. Speaking to The Sun, she said motherhood has changed their perspectives: "They have healed a part of me which I never thought was possible. We're all mums now and I can't speak on behalf of them, but I'd like to think that we probably see things a lot differently now."

She emphasized her enduring affection for her former bandmates: "I have so much love for them and always will. So never say never [to a reconciliation]." Jesy reflected on their sisterly bond, noting that "the reason why Little Mix were so successful because we genuinely were like sisters at one point, we were genuinely best friends."

Jesy's documentary promises to provide unprecedented insight into her journey from X Factor contestant to global pop star, through personal tragedies and professional challenges, offering fans the most complete picture yet of life after Little Mix.
