Jeremy Clarkson has declared the Scottish Borders as the most beautiful place in the United Kingdom, settling a long-standing personal debate. The 66-year-old former Top Gear host and star of Clarkson's Farm spent three days travelling in the region and shared his verdict on social media, attracting over 2.5 million views and hundreds of comments.
Clarkson's Revelation
In a tweet posted on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, Clarkson wrote: "I have never been able to decide which is Britain's most beautiful bit: North Devon or the Yorkshire Dales. But I've just spent the last three days in the Scottish Borders, and now I have an answer. God almighty, they're beautiful. Also, I bought some cows there." The post quickly went viral, sparking a lively debate among his followers.
Clarkson, who is in remission after being diagnosed with prostate cancer last year, regularly travels across the country for his farming show and manages businesses in the Cotswolds, including Diddly Squat Farm Shop, Hawkstone Brewery, and the Farmer's Dog pub. However, he was recently spotted filming a new project away from his usual haunts, leading to his discovery of the Scottish Borders.
Public Reaction
The tweet generated a mix of agreement and disagreement. One follower commented: "Currently sitting having a beer down the Borders. Beautiful. But scenery is not a patch on the Highlands. Breathtaking." Clarkson replied: "The Highlands are spectacular. The Borders are beautiful." Another user said: "I took a tour through there about eight years ago in my Jaguar. I have seen a fair bit of the world, but yes, the Scottish Highlands are unique in beauty."
However, some disagreed, suggesting other locations. One social media user wrote: "Sorry, you can’t beat the north east Wales Clwydian Range." Another advised: "Put Luskentyre Beach on your bucket list, Jeremy, the most spectacular scenery in the UK. Cycling the Hebridean Way is the best three days ever on a bike. Ok, you are allowed to drive it as well."
Filming in Scotland
Clarkson's trip to Scotland included visits to Scottish Leather Group sites in Renfrewshire. He was seen at the company's headquarters in Bridge of Weir, where camera crews gathered as he arrived. The production team later moved to Scottish Leather Group's facility on Renfrew Road in Paisley to continue filming. In his latest column for The Sunday Times, Clarkson mentioned: "I wasn’t going to write a column this week because I’ve got to go to Scotland to buy a flock of cows."
