Reality TV star and confectionery heir Jamie Laing has been left utterly red-faced after recount a toe-curlingly awkward encounter with a London cabbie that did not go to plan.
The Made in Chelsea regular, known for his posh-boy charm, expected to be recognised during a recent taxi journey. Instead, he was dealt a crushing blow to his ego that left him feeling deeply humiliated.
Laing detailed the incident on his own podcast, Private Parts, with co-host Sophie Habboo. He explained how he hopped into a taxi, assuming the driver would know exactly who he was. "I get in the cab and I'm like, 'Alright mate, how you doing?'" the star recalled.
The driver's response was not what Jamie anticipated. Rather than fawning over the E4 star, the cabbie squinted into his rearview mirror and asked a question that cut deep: "Are you that guy from The Apprentice?"
The moment was a spectacular misidentification that left Laing reeling. He was quick to correct the driver, insisting, "No, no, no. Made in Chelsea!" in a desperate attempt to claim his slice of minor fame.
But the humiliation didn't end there. The taxi driver, entirely unfazed, simply shrugged off the correction and delivered the final, brutal blow: "Oh, alright. It's all the same anyway."
The dismissive comment reduced Jamie and Sophie to fits of laughter, though it was undoubtedly a sting to the reality star's pride. The incident serves as a hilarious reminder that even quasi-fame has its utterly cringe-worthy moments.
