Amanda Holden Knew Alan Carr Won Celebrity Traitors From His Radio Silence
Holden Reveals How She Knew Carr Won Celebrity Traitors

Amanda Holden has disclosed the simple clue that told her co-star and close friend Alan Carr had triumphed on The Celebrity Traitors long before his victory was broadcast.

The Tell-Tale Silence

Holden, 54, who presents Amanda And Alan’s Greek Job with the comedian, said her suspicion was aroused by an uncharacteristic break in their daily communication. Speaking to Radio Times, Holden revealed that Carr fell silent for the entire two-week filming period of the BBC reality gameshow.

"I knew he must have done well because I didn’t speak to him for two weeks, normally we speak every day," she explained. This sudden radio silence was a stark departure from their usual routine and immediately signalled to Holden that Carr was deeply involved in the game, likely as a successful traitor.

A Surge in Popularity for a Comedy Staple

Holden also reflected on the renewed and widespread popularity Carr has enjoyed since the show aired in late 2025. She expressed amusement that many are treating the long-established comedian as a new discovery.

"He’s been around for so long, but everyone’s suddenly like, ‘Oh, I love Alan Carr’, and I think, ‘How is he a new thing to you? He’s always been this brilliant’," she said.

The TV personality shared an anecdote about her daughter, Holly, who has always been a fan. "My daughter Holly, who’s always loved him, said to me, ‘Everyone’s asking me about Alan’, and I say to them, ‘You’ve met Alan, he was in the back garden at our party, and you weren’t bothered about him then’," Holden recounted.

She credited the show's presence on social media platforms like TikTok for introducing Carr to a whole new generation. "Alan’s literally brought them a cup of tea in bed or been on holiday with them. But now they’re really into him, it’s brought a whole new generation because of all the TikToks and the memes, which is lovely."

The Winning Game and Future Speculation

In the first British celebrity series, Alan Carr, 49, outwitted faithfuls including comedian Nick Mohammed and historian David Olusoga in the tense finale. His victory secured the entire £87,500 prize fund, which he donated to the cancer charity Neuroblastoma UK.

The interview also touched on whether Holden herself would ever appear on the show. Carr has said she would be "great" on The Celebrity Traitors. Holden hinted she would only want to participate as a traitor, citing the more memorable role, but appeared to rule it out due to a scheduling clash with Britain’s Got Talent.

"I do love the cloak, I think I’d look like the woman from the Scottish Widows advert if I could customise it with a red lip," she joked. "They’d make me a faithful though, and that’s boring. You don’t remember the faithfuls."

In response, Carr quipped: "Well, a traitor would say that. Wouldn’t they?"

The standard version of The Traitors, featuring members of the public, is currently airing its fourth series on BBC One. The full interview with Amanda Holden is available in the latest issue of the Radio Times.
