Gemma Collins' Cheltenham Festival: From Wardrobe Woes to Windfall Wins
Reality television personality Gemma Collins, aged 45, encountered an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction during her attendance at the Cheltenham races on Thursday. The inclement weather conditions played havoc with her distinctive outfit, leaving her satin pleated skirt thoroughly drenched in mud and rainwater. A video capturing this unfortunate incident was widely circulated on social media platforms, showcasing the extent of the saturation.
Fortunately, Collins received prompt assistance from two gentlemen standing nearby, who stepped in to help her manage the situation. Later in the day, she reunited with fellow reality star Georgia Toffolo, as both sought warmth and shelter within the private boxes at the racecourse.
A Lucrative Lunch and Celebratory Shouts
The mood quickly shifted from dampened spirits to exuberant celebration when Gemma Collins won an impressive £20,000 during the day's events. At a sit-down lunch in a private box, she left the entire room in stitches by loudly exclaiming, 'I'm f***ing loaded!' She further elaborated on her windfall, adding, 'I’m coming home with 20 large ones.'
This substantial sum was accumulated on the third day of the races, with £5,000 of it stemming from a single £500 bet alone. Collins' horse, Meetmebythesea, triumphed in the 2pm race with odds of 9/1, prompting the reality star to quaff champagne and punch the air with unbridled glee.
Social Media Showcase and Stylish Arrival
Taking to her Instagram account at the conclusion of the day, the former TOWIE star fanned herself with a wad of banknotes, accompanied by the Britney Spears track Work B***h. In her caption, she penned, 'Absolutely had the best day ever I’ve been very lucky today ☘️☘️ @paddypowerofficial thank you for all the luck ☘️ I’ve absolutely smashed it out the park today with the horse picks.'
Joining a host of other celebrities at the festival, Gemma Collins arrived via helicopter, making a striking entrance in a plaid coat adorned with brown furry sleeves and a silk headscarf. Her ensemble was completed with pink gloves, a large Mulberry Bayswater bag, and, of course, a pair of sunglasses.
Redemption Arc: I'm A Celeb All Stars Journey
Beyond the races, Gemma Collins has recently signed up for the I'm A Celebrity All Stars series, which was filmed in South Africa last year. She admits to feeling 'like Lara Croft' while tackling what she describes as 'terrifying' trials. This participation marks a significant redemption for Collins, who has spent over a decade feeling as though a 'black cloud' hung over her head following her onscreen meltdown during her initial stint on the show in Australia, where she quit after just three days due to fears.
Speaking at Monday's I'm A Celeb All Stars launch, Collins reflected on her determination to move past her 2014 experience, which turned her into a meme and viral clip. She stated, 'Obviously, it didn't work out for me the first time around. When I got asked to do it again, I thought I had spent my whole life with this black cloud hanging over my head. I am older now, I just thought, I have to do this before whatever happens to me in my life, I must go back into that jungle. It was one regret I had. This was a total redemption from me.'
She elaborated on her mindset, saying, 'On a real one, I went in there as Gemma Collins and it's like the GC is the bravado and she'll have a laugh and whatever, but I was so stripped bare because I knew it was so disastrous the time before.'
Trials, Tribulations, and Dishwasher Dilemmas
Collins explained that, despite knowing what to expect from the show presented by Ant and Dec, the trials proved even more challenging than during her first appearance. She nearly quit before boarding the plane, admitting that without the encouragement of her makeup artist, she might not have taken on the challenge.
Recounting the experience, she said, 'I got told I was going to a cocktail party so I had a full silk gown on and I turned the corner and you know what they're like, bless you, producers, they go to me "Gem, it's all good, you're going in, you're going to have a few drinks with everyone, it's like a welcome meeting" but honestly it was nothing like that. It's so surreal. Nothing can prepare you for what comes next. It was so much tougher than before.'
She added, 'I was absolutely bricking it, and I was petrified. My makeup artist had to slap me at Heathrow airport because I sat there and said "I don't think I can go through with this." I was petrified but I took a deep breath and went in strong.'
Interestingly, for Gemma Collins, who anticipated that heights, bugs, trials, and camp conditions would be her greatest tests, it was the absence of her beloved two dishwashers that posed the toughest challenge. She remarked, 'The one thing that troubled me though was the copious amounts of washing up because I was on camp duty with Adam Thomas and it was a massive camp, I'm not going to lie, I have two dishwashers at home. It was all part of camp life, it really grounds you again going in there. It brings you back to simplicity; it breaks you in ways you have never been broken before. I left some trials broken with every inch of my life, I can't describe the pain I felt.'
