Gail Porter Posts Emotional Tribute to Late Ex-Boyfriend Keith Flint on Instagram

Television personality Gail Porter has shared a deeply emotional tribute to her late ex-boyfriend and The Prodigy star Keith Flint in a poignant Instagram post published on Friday. The 54-year-old broadcaster accompanied an old photograph of the pair together with the heartfelt caption: 'If only I could turn back time.'

Anniversary of Loss and Musical Milestone

This emotional remembrance coincides with the six-year anniversary of Keith Flint's tragic death. The iconic musician was found deceased at his Essex home on March 4, 2019, at just 49 years old. Simultaneously, his bandmates Liam Howlett and Maxim marked thirty years since The Prodigy released their groundbreaking hit 'Firestarter' in 1996.

Holly Willoughby joined fans worldwide in celebrating three decades of the influential track, sharing a short clip of Keith performing the song on her Instagram with the message: 'Happy 30th to Firestarter... what a tune!'

Bandmates' Personal Reflections

The surviving Prodigy members Liam and Maxim also shared their own tribute to Keith on Instagram, writing: 'Firestarter is 30 years old... I can remember so clearly every moment writing this tune. Keef [Keith] coming into the studio and hearing it for the first time, jumping off the walls and then grabbing the mic to record his first ever vocal, it was totally spontaneous.'

They continued: 'People refused to play it on the radio and support it at first. It just found its own way, own momentum, then exploded from nowhere. So yeah, we are proud of this tune and proud of it for Keef.'

Gail Porter's Candid Reflections on Their Relationship

Gail Porter, who dated Keith Flint between 1999 and 2000, previously discussed their relationship in detail during an interview with Louis Theroux. She revealed: 'Keith was the love of my life, I absolutely loved him, I miss him. I was single and we went out and we did not stop laughing for the entire evening and then practically that was us together, almost for two years.'

She emphasized the positive aspects of their time together: 'The good thing was, he didn't really talk about work, I didn't really talk about work, we would just go and do fun things.'

Mental Health Struggles and Final Separation

Porter recalled a particularly idyllic period during a trip to the Maldives while she was filming 'Wish You Were Here...': 'He had a few wobbles but by the end of it, he was swimming every day, we were going to the gym and both of us, our mental health was just so fantastic. Of course everyone is going to be extremely happy if you're in the Maldives, we were so lucky.'

However, she described the difficulties that emerged upon their return: 'When we got back I said, "Right, I'm going to go back to work and you go back to work." He just didn't get his mind back into things properly. And he was going that way and I was like, we need to keep our minds positive and it just didn't work that way. He was on a downer, I was trying to work my hardest, so it was a shame.'

Acknowledging their respective challenges, she added: 'I always thought there was going to be that moment when we are going to have bad times at different times and it kind of worked that way unfortunately.'

Shock and Grief Following Tragic Death

Gail Porter previously revealed she 'never expected' the news of her ex-boyfriend's death, admitting she was completely gobsmacked when she learned he had died. She spoke candidly to Lorraine Kelly about overcoming her own mental health struggles, explaining she's finally 'in a good place.'

Keith Flint was found deceased in his Essex home, with toxicology reports indicating the presence of cocaine, alcohol, and codeine in his system. Following an inquest, a coroner recorded an open verdict, ruling there was insufficient evidence to determine whether his death was suicide or accidental.

Speaking to Lorraine about his passing, Gail admitted the news still came as a profound shock nearly two decades after their separation: 'It's horrible. I was completely gobsmacked to be honest with you. Such a loss he was a great guy. I could never have expected that in a million years.'
