Gabby Logan's daughter 'horrified' by her cheating confession

Gabby Logan has revealed that her daughter was left "very upset" and "horrified" after learning that the TV presenter had cheated on an ex-boyfriend.

The 53-year-old broadcaster, known for covering major sporting events including the Olympic Games, the World Cup and the Commonwealth Games, is set to front Amazon Prime's coverage of Tuesday night's Champions League league phase clash between Atletico Madrid and Manchester United.

Memoir revelation

Logan published her memoir, The First Half, in October 2022, recounting deeply personal anecdotes from her private life and career, including her regrets about cheating on a university boyfriend. She later married former Scottish rugby international Kenny in 2001, and the couple have two children - Lois and Reuben, both aged 21.

Speaking to The Times, Logan said: "My daughter was very upset with me when she read in my book that I cheated on my boyfriend at university. She was horrified. A lot has not gone the way I would have wanted it to in my life, and it was good for her to understand that."

Daughter's reaction

Logan had previously shared similar sentiments, revealing her daughter's disbelief: "Basically I cheated on a boyfriend, and I think with that generation there's a line that you don't cross. And she was just saying 'I can't believe you did that. I can't believe you did that'."

She added: "It's relevant to the particular chapter of my life that was going on, and I think she was probably processing that and thinking, 'What if that was my dad?', you know."

Regret and lessons

Asked whether cheating on her then-partner was potentially a route out of an unhappy relationship, Logan said: "I thought it was, and then I decided I wanted to go back over the bridge. It was broken. So that was a lesson in terms of sometimes the grass isn't greener."

Logan said she felt enormous guilt at the time. "We shouldn't be together now. So that was the right thing that happened," she added. "But I felt terrible at the time. Carried a lot of guilt around as well. A lot more than I'm sure a lot of men would carry."

She stressed the importance of acknowledging mistakes, especially with children: "I think it's really important to acknowledge your mistakes and I think, especially with your kids, to not paint yourself as being this perfect person that's done everything right."

Kenny had also previously voiced his surprise at her admission while appearing on her Mid Point podcast, telling her: "That was a bit of a shock. It was a shock to the kids, too!"
