Kellie Bright, the actress who has portrayed EastEnders' Linda Carter for nearly 13 years, is married to fellow actor Paul Stocker. The couple met while performing in a theatre production together and wed in Cornwall in 2014.
Linda Carter's Dramatic Storylines
Since arriving in Albert Square in 2013, Linda Carter has faced numerous challenges. She has battled alcohol dependency, survived a horrific sexual assault, had a romance with Max Branning (Jake Wood), and her childhood love Mick (Danny Dyer) is presumed dead. On Christmas Day 2023, in a shocking twist, Linda murdered Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) in The Queen Vic by stabbing him with a meat thermometer as he tried to strangle Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean).
Linda, along with Sharon, Kathy (Gillian Taylforth), Stacey (Lacey Turner), Suki (Balvinder Sopal), and Denise (Diane Parish), conspired to cover up the killing. Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry) later took the blame after receiving a terminal diagnosis. More recently, Linda and her mother Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe) sold The Vic and opened a bed and breakfast on the Square. Linda has struggled to find a new romantic partner, despite a recent fling with Grant Mitchell (Ross Kemp).
Kellie Bright's Real-Life Marriage
Away from the soap, Kellie Bright's life is very different from her character's. The 50-year-old from Brentwood is mother to three sons—Freddie, Gene, and Rudy—with Paul Stocker. Bright met Stocker while they were in a theatre production; she was 31 and he was 24. She told OK! Magazine: "Reality kicked in. I was 31 and wanted to have kids, and Paul was 24 and didn't at the time. I felt it wasn't fair to Paul, I worried he'd resent me." However, Bright, who admitted she "loved Paul" before they even kissed, soon realized she was "cutting my nose to spite my face" and took her foot off the gas.
Paul Stocker's Acting Career
Paul Stocker, from Redbridge, is known for his role in the 2007 film Atonement alongside Keira Knightley and James McAvoy. He also appeared in the BAFTA award-winning film The Mark of Cain and numerous theatre productions, including Two Noble Kinsmen, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, and Six Degrees of Separation.
Stocker made a cameo on EastEnders in 2016 as a police officer, then returned five years later as a violent thief at The Queen Vic. In one scene, he menaced Linda, grabbing her from behind and covering her mouth. His other TV credits include Casualty, Doctors, and most recently, he voiced Roscoe in the podcast series Tagged.
EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday on BBC One and iPlayer.
