David Beckham sushi dinner with son Romeo amid family rift

David Beckham enjoyed a 'lovely dinner' with his son Romeo at a swanky sushi restaurant in Mayfair on Saturday, having previously shared his love of Japanese cuisine with his eldest Brooklyn.

The footballer, 51, took to Instagram to share snaps from his night out at the Sushi Kanesaka restaurant at 45 Park Lane. After enjoying the 18-course meal, David shared a selfie with Romeo along with the caption: 'A lovely dinner with my boy,' as they enjoyed a glass of white wine together.

The restaurant only has nine counter seats and a private dining room, and a meal costs £420 per head, with optional sake or wine pairings available from £150 a head.

In January, Brooklyn, 27, said he did not want to reconcile with his mother Victoria and father David, and claimed his parents and his siblings Romeo, 23, Cruz, 21, and Harper, 14, are 'performative'. But prior to the fall-out, Brooklyn and David had shared their love for Japanese cuisine, even enjoying sushi during the budding chef's 21st birthday celebrations.

In 2018, David and Brooklyn enjoyed dinner at the triple Michelin star restaurant Sukiyabashi Jiro in Tokyo, prepared by chef Jiro Ono. At the time Brooklyn shared a snap from the outing on Instagram, writing: 'Wow… my dad promised me he would bring me here, and today he surprised me with the most amazing dinner ever. Thank you very much Jiro son.' The exclusive eatery only has ten counter seats and serves a set omakase tasting menu, which consists of about 20 sushi pieces prepared fresh by chef Jiro, with the menu costing around 30,000 Japanese Yen, which equates to about £201 plus tax.

David also previously confessed that he sat in on Brooklyn's first date as a teenager, which took place in a London sushi restaurant. Brooklyn had also shared in 2022 that he could eat sushi for 'every meal' when he was offered an exclusive cooking lesson with the legendary Chef Nobu.

It comes after Brooklyn's wife Nicola appeared to take another swipe at the Beckham family, as their feud rumbles on. Nicola, 31, posted a sweet photo of her and the wannabe chef beaming alongside her billionaire parents Nelson and Claudia. She captioned the snap: 'My whole heart and world in one photo'.

It comes after Brooklyn also alleged that his family values 'public promotion and endorsements above all else', adding that 'Brand Beckham comes first'. Appearing on Emma Grede's podcast Aspire this week, fashion designer Victoria, 52, said building their £500 million empire known as 'Brand Beckham' was 'never their intention' and insisted she wasn't a 'pushy parent'.

During the interview, Dragons' Den entrepreneur Emma asked the former Spice Girls star about how she decides what 'remains personal' and what is part of Brand Beckham. The line of questioning appeared to allude to Brooklyn's scathing six-page statement, in which he claimed he had been 'controlled' by his parents for most of his life with 'performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships'.

Seemingly hitting back, Victoria told Emma: 'When David and I first met it was never our intention to start a brand. People talk about "Brand Beckham" - that has happened so organically. When I first met David, I mean he was a Brylcreem boy. So David was Adidas and Brylcreem and Pepsi and I was in the Spice Girls and that's where I learnt so much about how to build a brand and marketing.'

'While he was doing Brylcreem and Adidas, the Spice Girls were doing Walkers crisps, Pepsi, Chupa Chups lollies, deodorant. Do you know? True story, my mother still has a Spice Girls' pizza in her oven. That pizza's been in the freezer for thirty odd years. So when people talk about "Brand Beckham", that was never something that we even discussed.'

Victoria insisted as their success grew, they remained focused on their separate projects with David working on building his football club Inter Miami, while she created her fashion and beauty empire. She continued: 'We don't have any deals together. David does what David does, I do what I do. That's the way it's always been. We have very different interests. I think it was the outside world that really talked about Brand Beckham, that's never really how we saw it. We're just doing what we do.'

Victoria went on to acknowledge how her children must have felt the pressure growing up in the public eye but she 'always tried to protect them'. She said: 'Our children have had a very different upbringing to myself and David, and I think the world is also a very different place now than to what it was when they were younger. We've always tried to protect the children as much as we can, we've always been very close.' However, the fashion designer insisted she was 'never pushy'.
