The Crown Star Elizabeth Debicki Risks Wardrobe Malfunction in Daring Met Gala Dress
Crown Star Debicki in Daring Met Gala Dress

One star of The Crown wore a very daring dress to the Met Gala that could have led to a terrible wardrobe malfunction if the slightest thing had gone wrong. Elizabeth Debicki, who played Princess Diana in seasons five and six, attended the event in a Grecian-inspired dress that exposed a significant amount of side boob and could have caused a mishap with any wrong move.

The Risky Outfit

The dress, designed by Vera Wang, was made of a cream fabric that delicately draped over her frame. The top consisted mostly of one panel that sat over the front of her chest while barely touching the sides. As such, one wrong move could have left Elizabeth exposed. The dress also featured a thigh-high split on each side and a black train that the actress had draped over her arm. She completed the look with flat sandals, also inspired by Ancient Greece.

Accessories and Tiara

Topping it all off, the star wore a tiara from 1957. The Vendura Feather Tiara was commissioned for American socialite Betsey Cushing Whitney to wear when her husband, Ambassador John Hay Whitney, was presented to Queen Elizabeth II at the Court of St James. Inspired by the US $10 coin from 1907, it weighs a whopping 28.32 carats and features 1,223 diamonds.

Met Gala Theme: Fashion is Art

This year's Met Gala theme was 'Fashion is Art,' and stars were expected to turn out in gorgeous outfits inspired by pieces of art from across mediums and time. While Elizabeth paid homage to Ancient Greek art, Sabrina Carpenter turned her attention to a much more modern art form. The singer arrived in a custom Dior dress crafted from rhinestoned film strips featuring stills from the 1954 film Sabrina, starring Audrey Hepburn. She later changed into an archival Versace gown with Andy Warhol's pop art portrait of Marilyn Monroe all over it.

Other Notable Attendees

  • Venus Williams chose to combine art and sport by wearing a necklace that was a re-creation of the Wimbledon plate, won by the tennis player who wins the UK tournament.
  • Heidi Klum, queen of Halloween costumes, took her skills to a new level and turned up looking like a statue. She and longtime Halloween collaborator, makeup artist Mike Marino, combined forces to create a look that made it seem as though Heidi and her dress were made of marble, inspired by the 1847 Raffaelle Monti sculpture Veiled Vestal at Chatsworth House.
  • Rachel Zegler arrived in a Prabal Gurung outfit: a corseted white dress combined with a thin blindfold over her eyes. The outfit was based on the 1833 painting The Execution of Lady Jane Grey by Paul Delaroche, on view at the National Gallery. It depicts the final moments of Lady Jane's life after she was Queen of England for nine days between the death of her cousin Edward VI and the rise of Mary I in 1553.
