Reality television personality Courtney Stodden has celebrated her first wedding anniversary with film producer Jared Safier, offering a remarkably candid update on their marriage which began with a significant confrontation.
A Rocky Start to Married Life
In an exclusive conversation with the Daily Mail, the 31-year-old star confirmed she is "really happy" and that "everything is going very well" one year after tying the knot. However, Stodden did not shy away from revealing the couple's tumultuous beginning. She disclosed that during their December 2024 honeymoon in Palm Springs, a major argument erupted on their very first night as a married couple.
The model admitted she almost walked out, sharing the "raw unfiltered truth" in a detailed Instagram post. "On the night I got married, Jared and I were both emotional, overwhelmed, and far too drunk to be making decisions with clear hearts," Stodden wrote. She described how a misunderstanding quickly escalated, exacerbated by outside influences, leaving her alone in the bridal suite.
"I spent our honeymoon night alone... wrapped in silence that brought back every old wound from being married at sixteen," she revealed, referencing her infamous first marriage to 'The Green Mile' actor Doug Hutchison when she was just 16 and he was 51. "The fear. The abandonment. The panic that history was repeating itself."
Rebuilding and Choosing Each Other
Despite the painful start, the couple chose reconciliation. Stodden expressed gratitude for their mutual honesty and willingness to rebuild their relationship. "We walked into marriage carrying childhood scars, complicated family dynamics, and expectations neither of us knew how to hold," she explained.
The star outlined their commitment to the hard work of marriage, stating they are focused on "rebuilding safety, rebuilding connection" while learning their new roles as husband and wife. "We are learning to communicate. Learning to love better," Stodden added. "We are learning to choose each other even when it hurts. And we are still learning… A LOT! Maybe love isn't perfect, but honest."
She concluded her reflection with a toast: "Here's to surviving year one. Here's to staying when it would've been easier to run… and a love that we both deserve."
A Partner's Perspective and Public Scrutiny
Jared Safier also shared a heartfelt tribute to his wife on their anniversary. He described Stodden as "the most intelligent, fierce, and obviously beautiful woman in the world" and acknowledged the unique pressures they have faced.
"It hasn't been easy for either of us with all the past relationships and trauma and media coverage," Safier said, referencing the intense public interest in Stodden's life since her teenage marriage. He pointedly noted that "lots of haters hoped we failed," even citing internet groups dedicated to that cause.
Recalling their first meeting at a Starbucks, where Stodden told him "don't fall in love with me," Safier wrote: "The best things in life aren't easy. If they were everyone would have them." He expressed his love for their family, which includes their pets Cartier, Harry Winston, and Onyx.
The anniversary reflections follow recent sightings of Stodden visiting renowned Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr Gary Motykie for a post-operative check-up. The Washington native underwent a septoplasty procedure earlier this year to address long-standing breathing issues, opting for a minor cosmetic refinement at the same time.
Stodden told the Daily Mail her nose was "healing nicely" and that the health-focused surgery was "the best decision," as she is now breathing much better. The star, whose film Confessions Of A Child Bride was released this autumn, was seen leaving the clinic in a stylish black ensemble, showcasing her toned figure.
