Clive Davis, the legendary music producer and executive who launched the career of Whitney Houston and shaped modern pop music, has died at the age of 94, his family confirmed.
Career Highlights and Legacy
Over nearly five decades, Davis signed and mentored a remarkable roster of artists across genres, including Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Janis Joplin, Carlos Santana, Alicia Keys, Patti Smith, and Lou Reed. He also played a pivotal role in the careers of Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood.
Davis discovered Houston when she was a teenager and helped build her into one of the top-selling artists in pop history with hits like I Wanna Dance With Somebody, How Will I Know, and her chart-topping rendition of I Will Always Love You. Houston died in 2012.
Health and Personal Life
Davis was reportedly hospitalized in May 2024 with an upper respiratory issue and discharged a few days later. He had also been diagnosed in 2021 with Bell's palsy, a neurological condition causing temporary facial paralysis.
Davis was portrayed by actor Stanley Tucci in the 2022 musical biopic Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody, reflecting his close friendship with the singer.
