Clint Stanaway, the former Weekend Today presenter, has experienced a deeply personal family tragedy, coming just months after his high-profile resignation from Channel Nine. The 43-year-old broadcasting veteran shared a poignant gallery of photographs on social media this Saturday, revealing the sad news that his beloved grandmother had passed away.
A Heartfelt Social Media Tribute
One touching photograph captured a dashing Clint Stanaway dancing with his elderly grandmother at a formal event, while another showed a much younger version of the presenter sitting comfortably on her lap. He accompanied the images with a moving caption that read: 'An icon left us today. Love ya, Nan.'
Numerous celebrity friends and colleagues quickly offered their condolences in the comment section. Jasmine Stefanovic wrote: 'Sending love to you and your family.' Radio star Lauren Phillips added: 'The Queen who loved a cheeky cheeseburger.' Meanwhile, sports presenter Danika Mason and Tipping Point host Todd Woodbridge both shared supportive messages and symbols of affection.
The Background: A Major Career Shift
This family loss follows Stanaway's significant career announcement in September, when he revealed the real reasons behind his shock resignation from Channel Nine after an impressive 25-year tenure with the network. He had formally announced his departure in an official statement, noting he would continue focusing on his role at Nova's Jase and Lauren breakfast show.
Appearing on his radio program shortly after the announcement, Stanaway explained to listeners that his decision had been developing over an extended period, primarily because he no longer felt the same passion for his television position as he once had. 'I'm relieved, I've been thinking about it for a while now. I needed to make a decision, because looking back on how I was feeling and where my head was at, I was burnt out,' Stanaway began.
'I walked into Nine in January 2001 as an 18 year old. That's near on 25 years. I made a really tough decision,' he continued, reflecting on his long media journey that started in the news library at Melbourne's GTV9 in the early 2000s before steadily rising through the ranks to become Weekend Sport Presenter for 9News Melbourne.
Embracing a New Radio Passion
Stanaway emphasized that he had developed an enormous passion for radio since joining Nova in March 2024, expressing excitement about being able to fully focus his career on broadcasting upon leaving Channel Nine at the end of 2025. 'I did this for six months initially and I became very quickly addicted to it. Now I see it as my life and my future, which is just such a beautiful feeling to have,' he shared enthusiastically.
The presenter acknowledged the challenges of balancing multiple professional commitments: 'I tried to juggle everything for so long. I think I did a really good job of it for so long. But I always knew in my heart of hearts, it had an expiry date and I'm now at a stage where I need to put myself in a position where I can get my life back.'
Looking Toward Personal Fulfillment
Stanaway expressed particular anticipation about having additional time to concentrate on his personal life once he no longer needed to manage two demanding jobs simultaneously. 'I want to get my life back. I want to do some normal things. I want to share some incredible moments with my family, friends, and one day, I want to be a dad, I want to meet someone. At the moment, I can't do that,' he explained candidly.
In his September resignation statement, Stanaway had openly admitted to dealing with a substantial workload that he hoped to reduce significantly. This career transition marks a pivotal moment for the veteran journalist, who now faces both professional change and personal loss within a relatively short timeframe.
