Candice King and Steven Krueger Exchange Vows in Private Tennessee Ceremony

Fans of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals were taken by surprise as actors Candice King and Steven Krueger officially tied the knot in a much more intimate setting than originally anticipated. The couple, who met on the set of the supernatural drama series, opted for a low-key elopement-style wedding at The Chapel at High Point Farm in Tennessee this February.

From Grand Plans to Intimate Celebration

Initially, King and Krueger had envisioned a large-scale wedding celebration in Nashville. However, their plans underwent a significant shift following the joyful discovery that King is expecting their first child together. In an exclusive interview with Vogue, Krueger revealed the couple's decision to scale back their nuptials. 'We decided to have a small elopement-style weekend in Nashville with just our immediate families, and save the bigger celebration for sometime next year,' he explained.

The ceremony was a profoundly personal affair, with only fifteen guests in attendance. This intimate group included King's two daughters, Florence and Josephine, from her previous marriage, as well as Krueger's two nieces. 'We had 15 people in total, including Candice’s daughters and my two nieces. And it was perfect,' Krueger emphasised, highlighting the warmth and closeness of the occasion.

Navigating Wedding Preparations with a Baby on the Way

Despite the reduced guest list, the couple was determined to make their wedding day exceptionally memorable. King shared that the logistics, even for a small gathering, presented their own challenges. 'The most stressful part was making sure the family felt taken care of and could get from point A to point B - which is true whether you’re eloping with 15 guests or managing a crowd of 200,' she noted.

Krueger added that they concentrated their efforts on the core elements that mattered most to them. 'We were ecstatic with how it all came together. We focused on the essential trifecta: photos, flowers, and food.' For King, one of the more unique hurdles was finding a suitable wedding dress while pregnant. She humorously remarked, 'Shockingly, there’s not a huge market for wedding dresses that fit over a baby bump.' Her goal was to find attire that made her feel both bridal and maternal, avoiding what she jokingly referred to as looking like the 'Stay Puft Marshmallow Man' from Ghostbusters bouncing down the aisle.

A Romance Forged on Screen

The couple's relationship began to blossom while they worked together on The Originals. They made their romance public on Instagram in December 2023, with King posting a heartfelt recap video of their year, captioned: 'I laughed. I cried. I laughed till I cried. I loved. Thanks for the dance 2023.'

The engagement followed in May 2025. Krueger proposed, and King announced the news on social media the next day, revealing they had kept the engagement secret for a couple of weeks. 'I think 38 just might be my favorite year yet,' King wrote. 'A couple of weeks ago @stevenakrueger gave me the best gift of all when he asked me to marry him. The privilege of getting older is much sweeter knowing I get to share it with you Steven.'

New Beginnings for the Acting Duo

This marriage marks a new chapter for both actors. King was previously married to Joe King, guitarist for the band The Fray, with whom she shares her two daughters. The pair separated in 2022. Now, with Krueger, she is expecting her third child and her first with her new husband.

Professionally, King is best known for her portrayal of vampire Caroline Forbes across all eight seasons of The Vampire Diaries from 2009 to 2017. She later reprised the role in the final season of The Originals in 2018 and made a guest appearance in Legacies during its final season in 2022.

Krueger starred as vampire Josh Rosza on The Originals for its entire five-season run from 2013 to 2018. He is currently starring as Coach Ben Scott in the critically acclaimed Showtime drama series Yellowjackets. The couple's intimate Tennessee wedding celebrates both their personal union and their shared history in the world of television drama.
