In a raw and emotional revelation, Busted star Matt Willis has bravely opened up about his darkest days battling addiction during the height of the band's fame.
The 40-year-old musician confessed that his life spiralled out of control as he turned to alcohol and drugs to cope with the pressures of sudden stardom. "I made some terrible choices during those years," Willis admitted, reflecting on the band's initial success in the early 2000s.
The Downward Spiral
Willis described how the whirlwind of fame, constant touring, and readily available substances created a perfect storm for addiction to take hold. "When you're young and suddenly thrown into that lifestyle, it's easy to lose yourself completely," he shared.
The musician revealed that his substance abuse became so severe that it threatened not only his career but his personal relationships and ultimately his life.
Road to Recovery
Thankfully, Willis found the strength to seek help and has been on a journey of recovery for years. He credits his wife, television presenter Emma Willis, with being his rock throughout the challenging process.
"Having that support system makes all the difference," Willis emphasized. "Emma has been incredible through everything - I wouldn't be where I am today without her."
Life After Addiction
Now a devoted father and continuing his music career, Willis uses his experience to help others struggling with similar issues. While he acknowledges that recovery is an ongoing process, he remains committed to maintaining his sobriety.
"Every day is a choice, but it's one I'm grateful to be able to make now," he stated. "I've learned so much about myself through this journey and I hope my story can help others who might be facing similar battles."
