Bonnie Tyler Dies at 75; Final Instagram Post Breaks Hearts

Bonnie Tyler's final Instagram post has taken on a poignant new meaning following the singer's death at the age of 75. The Welsh music legend, best known for hits including Total Eclipse of the Heart, Holding Out for a Hero and It's a Heartache, died after a recent illness, her family confirmed on Thursday.

Family Confirms Death in Portugal

A statement shared on her official website read: "Bonnie's family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for." The star had been receiving treatment in Portugal since May after undergoing emergency intestinal surgery. She was placed into an induced coma before later waking up, although her spokesperson revealed last month that she remained "very unwell" in intensive care.

Fans Flood Instagram with Tributes

In the wake of the heartbreaking news, fans flooded Bonnie's Instagram page with tributes, many gathering beneath what has become one of her final posts. On May 1, the singer shared her excitement about contributing an original song, One World One Home, to the documentary Homeless, directed by Valerio Zanoli. The track, which Bonnie recorded with the Dallas Street Choir, was written to raise awareness of housing insecurity and homelessness.

Documentary and Song for Charity

The documentary explores the growing housing crisis in Las Vegas, looking at issues including rising rents and gaps in mental health care while telling the personal stories of people experiencing homelessness in a bid to restore dignity and challenge stereotypes. Sharing the film's trailer with her followers, Bonnie wrote: "I am grateful for the opportunity to perform on its soundtrack." The project was especially close to the star's heart, with all profits from both the documentary and Bonnie's song going towards helping secure affordable housing for underprivileged families.

Final Social Media Posts and Milestones

Another of Bonnie's final social media posts saw MP Carolyn Harris asking the Leader of the House to join her in wishing the singer well following news of her hospitalisation during Business Questions in mid-May. Despite her health battle, Bonnie had continued celebrating major career milestones in recent months. Last year, she teamed up with David Guetta and Hypaton on Together, a club reworking of her iconic hit Total Eclipse of the Heart. Earlier this year, the original 1983 classic surpassed one billion streams on Spotify. Speaking after reaching the landmark achievement, Bonnie said: "I'm really happy. When you think about it, there's only 8.3 billion people in the world."

Survived by Husband

Bonnie is survived by her husband of more than 50 years, Robert Sullivan.
