Binky Felstead Accused of Seeking Free Wedding Invites

Binky Felstead Faces Fresh Backlash Over Alleged Freebie Requests

Reality television personality Binky Felstead has encountered renewed criticism this week, as an illustrator has come forward with claims that the star solicited complimentary wedding invitations and stationery for her 2022 nuptials in Corfu. This incident marks the second time in a short span that Felstead has been accused of seeking free products or services in return for social media exposure.

Illustrator Alice Peto Details Alleged Request for Free Wedding Designs

London-based illustrator Alice Peto has publicly shared an email from 2021, purportedly sent by a member of Binky Felstead's team. The correspondence requested custom illustrations for wedding invitations, menus, table names, and place settings for Felstead's lavish ceremony in Greece, offering only exposure on the couple's social media accounts as compensation.

In the email, the team expressed interest in Peto's work, stating, "The couple would be looking for the design free of charge in exchange for exposure on their social media accounts." Peto, who has two decades of experience in illustration, declined the offer, responding that she could not undertake the project without payment.

Previous Allegations from Baker Reshmi Bennett Surface

This latest claim follows similar allegations made by Reshmi Bennett, the owner of luxury London cake business Anges de Sucre. Bennett took to social media to assert that Felstead's team had requested a free bespoke birthday cake for her son Wilder's third birthday, proposing an Instagram post as the sole form of payment.

Bennett shared screenshots of the exchange and even created a satirical GoFundMe page, humorously seeking £1.4 million in donations to cover the cake's cost, referencing Felstead's substantial online following. She commented on the situation, noting, "Unfortunately, our energy supplier is very old fashioned and continues to insist on being paid in actual money rather than exposure or engagement."

Response from Binky Felstead's Team and Additional Claims

In response to the baker's allegations, Felstead's team issued a statement clarifying that Binky was not directly involved in the email exchanges and was on a family holiday at the time. They emphasized that such collaboration proposals are common in the industry and typically mutually beneficial, expressing disappointment over the public sharing of a private enquiry.

Furthermore, another bakery owner, from Funfetti London, commented on Bennett's post, alleging that Felstead had previously requested free wedding and birthday cakes in 2021 in exchange for social media mentions and coverage in Hello! magazine. The baker claimed that despite fulfilling the order, she received no promised exposure or payment, even after months of follow-up attempts.

Growing Scrutiny on Influencer Practices

These incidents highlight ongoing debates within the entertainment and influencer spheres regarding the ethics of requesting free goods or services. As public figures like Binky Felstead face increasing scrutiny, the conversation around fair compensation versus exposure-based deals continues to evolve, with many small business owners advocating for monetary payment over promotional offers.
