Jane Fallon Faces Another Surgery in Cancer Fight, Warns of AI Fakes
Jane Fallon's Cancer Surgery Update and AI Warning

Best-selling author Jane Fallon has disclosed that she is preparing for another surgical procedure as part of her ongoing battle against breast cancer. The 65-year-old writer, who has been in a long-term relationship with comedian Ricky Gervais for over four decades, took to Instagram on Monday to post a photograph of her feet adorned in compression socks, which are typically utilised during and after operations to help prevent the formation of dangerous blood clots.

Positive Medical Update Amidst Surgical Journey

In a caption accompanying the image, Fallon wrote simply: 'The popsox are on again. Wish me luck.' This prompted an outpouring of supportive messages from followers, including well-known figures such as television presenter Emma Willis and comedian Roisin Conaty. The author first revealed her cancer diagnosis in March, following a routine mammogram screening, and has since maintained an open dialogue with her fans regarding her health journey through social media platforms.

Earlier this month, Fallon provided a notably optimistic update, explaining that surgeons had successfully removed the tumour along with a margin of surrounding healthy tissue. She shared that medical professionals indicated they had 'basically got it all.' However, she clarified that the margins around the excised area were not entirely clear, necessitating a further operation to ensure complete removal.

Details of the Upcoming Procedure

'It will be just to make sure they get everything, which is a bit of a pain, but it isn't a worry – they just need to make sure they have a clear margin, so will be the exact same operation as last time,' Fallon elaborated. Despite the inconvenience of undergoing another surgery, she emphasised that this step is precautionary and not a cause for alarm, aimed solely at securing definitive clearance of cancerous cells.

Confronting Disturbing AI-Generated Fabrications

This health update arrives shortly after Fallon publicly denounced what she described as a 'disgusting' fake obituary that circulated online. In a post shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, she addressed the malicious content that emerged following her cancer diagnosis. Fallon expressed frustration over AI-generated images falsely depicting her in hospital settings, looking distressed or with medical tubes, which she confirmed are entirely fabricated.

'I've taken the post about the obituary down, because I don't want people to think I'm upset by it. I'm not. p***ed off yes. But more, I just want people to know that any photos you see of me in hospital, looking sad or with tubes sticking out of me are 100% fake – AI generated,' she stated unequivocally.

Support and Backlash Against Fake Content

Followers rallied behind Fallon, with one individual highlighting that the fake obituary originated from a page masquerading as a Ricky Gervais fan account. The supporter condemned the page as 'beyond vile,' noting its deceptive guise and posting of libellous AI-generated material. Fallon's career, which began in television before she authored her first bestselling novel, 'Getting Rid Of Matthew,' in 2007, has seen her publish fourteen books to date, including acclaimed titles like 'Worst. Idea. Ever,' 'Faking Friends,' 'Just Got Real,' and 'Queen Bee.'

Born in Harrow, Fallon initiated her relationship with Ricky Gervais in 1982 after they met while both were students at University College London. The couple moved in together in 1984 and currently reside in Hampstead, west London, alongside their cherished pets. Throughout her health challenges, Fallon continues to engage with her audience, blending personal updates with advocacy against the proliferation of harmful digital misinformation.
