BBC Radio 2 breakfast host Scott Mills has been sacked from the corporation over allegations relating to his personal conduct, according to a report from BBC News. A statement issued by the BBC to its news department confirmed the departure, stating: "While we do not comment on matters relating to individuals we can confirm Scott Mills is no longer contracted and has left the BBC."
Background and Career at the BBC
The 53-year-old presenter from Southampton took over the Radio 2 Breakfast Show from Zoe Ball last year, marking a significant shift in his broadcasting career. Mills began his tenure at the BBC in the late 1990s on Radio 1, where he initially hosted the early breakfast slot. Over time, he progressed to presenting weekend programmes and an early evening show, stepping in to provide maternity cover for Sara Cox. When Cox did not return, the programme was rebranded as The Scott Mills Show, solidifying his presence on the network.
Transition to Radio 2 and Other Roles
In 2022, Mills made the move to Radio 2, taking over Steve Wright's weekday afternoon slot. He presented various shows on the station before assuming the Breakfast Show role following Ball's departure. Beyond his radio work, Mills has also hosted a weekend show on Radio 5 Live and gained public recognition through his appearance on series 12 of Strictly Come Dancing. Paired with professional dancer Joanne Clifton, he became the fifth couple to be eliminated from the competition.
The dismissal comes amid ongoing scrutiny of personal conduct within broadcasting organisations, highlighting the BBC's commitment to upholding standards. Mills' exit from the BBC marks the end of a long-standing association that spanned over two decades, leaving questions about the future of the Radio 2 Breakfast Show and the impact on listeners accustomed to his morning programming.
