BBC Axes Ashley Cain Documentary After Offensive Tweets
BBC Axes Ashley Cain Doc Over Offensive Tweets

The BBC has cancelled the documentary series Ashley Cain: Into the Danger Zone after historic social media posts by the former footballer and Celebrity MasterChef star emerged, featuring offensive and misogynistic language about women.

Investigation into Vetting Failures

The broadcaster confirmed that it will not air the already-filmed second series and has no plans to work with Cain again. A BBC spokesperson stated: "The posts by Ashley Cain, albeit from many years ago, are completely unacceptable. The BBC has clear requirements around vetting and social media checks, which are undertaken by the production company. In this instance, the process clearly failed and we are investigating why."

Offensive Tweets Surface

The tweets, from 2014 and 2015, included derogatory terms for women and aggressive remarks. According to The Guardian, Cain used words such as "sl*gs," "b*****s," and "psychos." In one post, he expressed a desire to "choke slam" and "spit in the face" of Love Island star Jessica Hayes. Another tweet read: "I DO NOT.. I repeat I DO NOT think EVERY girl is a sl*g! There are some absolute PHENOMENAL women out there.. They’re just a rare commodity."

Documentary Series Details

The first series of Into the Danger Zone aired in April 2025, following Cain as he traveled to dangerous locations and interviewed young men on society's fringes. Filming for the second series took place earlier in 2026, with Cain sharing updates from Peru in April, announcing it would premiere in summer 2026. The BBC has now scrapped those plans.

The BBC added: "We are continuing to strengthen our processes to ensure everyone working for, and on behalf of, the BBC meets our values and standards. We have no plans to broadcast the new series of 'Into the Danger Zone', and no future projects with Ashley Cain."
