Andrew Castle, the legendary BBC commentator known as the iconic voice of Wimbledon, has sensationally quit his role just days after being informed that the 2026 Championships would be his last with the broadcaster. Castle's voice had become synonymous with the BBC's coverage of Wimbledon, but the network had decided to move in a different direction, telling him this year would be his final outing.
However, Castle has taken matters into his own hands, handing in his resignation with less than a month to go before the action in SW19 gets underway. A BBC spokesperson stated: "We wanted Andrew to continue with the BBC at Wimbledon next year, but he has now decided that this year will be his last. We look forward to working with him at the 2026 Championships and thank him for his great work leading our commentary team there for more than 20 years."
