Amy Schumer felt a wave of nostalgia on Monday after missing the Met Gala, prompting her to share a throwback to an unusual moment spent on the museum's iconic staircase. The 44-year-old comedian, who boasts 12.5 million Instagram followers, posted a story on Tuesday showing herself posing alongside crew members setting up the ball, captioning it 'on my way to give birth' to her son Gene Fischer 'seven years ago today' in 2019.
Hours after that photo was taken, Schumer and her estranged husband Chris Fischer welcomed their first child via caesarean section due to her endometriosis. The Costume Institute benefit took place one day later with the theme 'Camp: Notes on Fashion.'
'It's all terrifying. Giving birth is the most terrifying thing you'll ever do that's completely worth it,' the Midi Health investor told People in 2019. 'Having a c-section was… my pregnancy was so hard, I was just very ready to meet my son.'
Schumer is no stranger to fashion's biggest night, having attended the Met Gala three times in 2016, 2017, and 2022.
On Sunday, the native New Yorker announced she 'threw her first birthday party as a single mom' for Gene's seventh birthday. Schumer could be seen digging into a slice of cake with her mother, Temple Emanu-El of the South Shore principal Sandra Schumer. Little Gene opted for a red ninja-themed cake, 'stabbed' with a katana, featuring deadly throwing stars and a cityscape.
There was no sign of the Emmy-winning producer's 45-year-old ex, whom she filed for divorce from on January 6 in New York County Court after seven years of marriage. Schumer and Fischer reportedly still have three frozen embryos to potentially provide a sibling, via surrogate, for Gene. The former couple, who sold their Brooklyn townhouse for $11 million on November 25, originally met through her personal assistant (his sister) just five months before they tied the knot.
On December 1, Schumer claimed her dramatic 50lb weight loss, courtesy of Mounjaro, had nothing to do with her separation from Fischer, nor his Asperger's Syndrome. The Tony-nominated thespian, who underwent liposuction in 2022, is the skinniest she has looked in decades thanks to the trendy GLP-1 agonist drug she began taking last year to shrink her 5ft7in frame.
On Tuesday, Schumer was spotted in Central Park while fully glam, wrapped in a floral comforter, for a mystery photo shoot. The Kinda Pregnant producer-star originally got her start in 2007, coming in fourth place on the fifth season of NBC's Last Comic Standing. Schumer is also the second cousin of Senator Chuck Schumer.
