American Idol Dedicates Season 24 to Murdered Music Supervisor Robin Kaye
American Idol Pays Tribute to Murdered Music Supervisor

The long-running television talent show American Idol has paid a poignant and heartfelt tribute to one of its most cherished behind-the-scenes figures. The show dedicated its entire 24th season to the memory of Robin Kaye, an award-winning music supervisor who was tragically murdered alongside her husband during the summer of 2025.

A Devastating Loss for the Idol Family

Robin Kaye and her husband, musician Thomas Deluca, were found shot to death in their Encino, California home on July 14, 2025. Their bodies were discovered four days after the incident, following a welfare check requested by concerned family members. The couple had returned home on July 10 to find an intruder, 22-year-old Raymond Boodarian, allegedly burglarising their property.

Authorities stated that a confrontation ensued, resulting in Boodarian shooting both victims. Thomas Deluca died almost instantly from a gunshot wound to the head, while Robin Kaye succumbed to her injuries minutes later. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.

A Moving On-Screen Memorial

During the season 24 premiere, which aired on January 26, American Idol opened with a solemn and moving tribute card. Displayed alongside a photograph of Kaye, the screen read: 'Season 24 of American Idol: Dedicated to Robin Kaye. "We’ll save you a seat."' This gesture served to honour an executive who had been an integral part of the show's fabric, working on and off since its debut in 2002 and consistently from 2009 onwards.

Following the shocking news of the murders, the show issued an emotional statement, describing Kaye as 'a cornerstone of the Idol family' who was 'truly loved and respected by all who came in contact with her.' The statement extended deepest sympathies to her family and friends.

Legal Proceedings and a Troubled Suspect

Raymond Boodarian was arrested just one day after the grisly discovery at a rented townhome in Reseda, where he lived with his mother and sister. He has been charged with two counts of murder and one count of residential burglary, with special circumstance allegations of multiple murders and murder during the commission of a burglary.

Prosecutors claim the murders appeared to be random, with no established connection between Boodarian and the couple. However, the case has taken a complex legal turn. In November 2025, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Maria Cavalluzzi ruled that Boodarian was 'not presently competent to stand trial' due to a psychiatric condition.

The judge ordered that Boodarian, who has a history of mental illness and a criminal record, be moved to a state facility for treatment with psychotropic medication. She noted that restoration of his competency was in the interest of justice, given the serious nature of the homicide charges. The defendant was deemed to lack the capacity to make decisions regarding his medication.

A Legacy Remembered

Robin Kaye's career as a music supervisor on one of television's most iconic shows spanned over two decades, earning her industry recognition and awards. Her sudden and violent death has sent shockwaves through the entertainment community. The dedication of an entire season of American Idol stands as a powerful testament to her lasting impact and the profound loss felt by her colleagues, including judges Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan, and host Ryan Seacrest.

As the legal process continues for the accused, the focus for the Idol family remains on celebrating the life and work of a talented professional whose contributions helped shape the sound of the show for a generation of viewers.
